Hi Cell Blasters,

I approach you all for words of wisdom and guidance.
I am back into BB after a gap of 4 years. Before that trained diligently for two years. Do I qualify as a beginner?

Bought this Arnold's BB Encyclopedia and am following his routine for beginners:

Monday & Thursday
-----------------
Chest: Bench Press, Incline Press, DB Flys
Back: Chin ups, BOver Rows
Power: Deadlifts
Abs

Tuesday & Friday
---------------
Shoulder: Military Press, DB Lateral raises
Power: Upright Rows
Arms: BB Curls, DB Curls, Close grip press, tricep extn with BB
Forearms: Wrist curls, Reserve curls

Wednesday & Saturday
--------------------
Thighs: Lunges(Warm up), Squats, Legpress, Leg curls
Calves: Standing calf raises, seated raises, one leg seated raises
Power: Straight leg dead lifts, Good mornings
Abs

I use 4 X 12,10,8,6 for most exercises. My goal is to bulk and I am putting all effort in correct nutrition (6 meals, Whey, Creatine, vitamin).

Reading the helpful articles by CowPimp, P-funk, Dale etc. I see how Bodybuilding and training has evovled. Most of the current articles suggest TBT or split routines for beginners. CP's article suggested 3 day split- Week A: Upper - Lower - Upper / Week B: Lower - Upper - Lower

Is the above routine by Arnold (kalifornia) old school? Should I rather be training 3 times a week only? Any suggesting or advice will be highly appreciated. :thumb:

Hope you well.

Yes you most certainly are a beginner. You need to try and get some stabilization work established and increase joint and tendon strength.

If you're able to workout six consecutive days, you aren't working out hard enough.

lol don't follow that clap trap

It amazes me that Arnold actually wrote/wants people to perform that. Why hasn't his book and the flaws of his training style that he promotes and makes bank off of been questioned?

Have to realize Arnold probably doesnt write half the things that are out there. Its more than likely some muscle mag writting some bs that they say Arnold did. Its not like they went searching through his house and said, wow heres an old routine by Arnold, lets post it.

Didn't Arnold "write" a book of his own?

Probably did.

But alot of articles in muscle mags are something like, "Arnolds long lost workout" or "Arnold's Leg Busting Routine!"......

Muscle Mags are great :roflmao:

They do produce a good smirk or 2 from me from time to time.

Arnold worked out twice a day 2 hours each workout, six days a week according to him in his 800 page book. I suppose I'd do the same if Joe Weider paid me to and I had gear given to me. Actually I would skip the gear but anyways. Looking at his recomendations in the book, I've come to the conclusion that he has no grip on reality.

Write a book for people not on gear who have jobs Arnold.

Arnold's workouts are designed for people who can't push themselves anaerobically.

that's a bad idea.

have you ever met a bodybuilder?

and i dont mean joe schmoe that thinks hes a bodybuilder, i mean a real bodybuilder that trains as his/her occupation? i'd like to find one that doesn't train in some shape or form 6 or even 7 days a week.

They sure can, because its called fueled by AAS. Its been proven time and time again the most effective way of training is the ways that are used by fitness professionals and the ways that are preached here. If you want to do your workouts out of a bb'ing mag feel free. But keep in mind they are the guys who are pumping tons and tons of HGH into their body.:thumb:

well thanks for the input but thats completely besides the point. he made a generalization that you cannot physically train 6 days a week unless you are slacking. And im sure that even some fitness pro's train 6 days a week, weither it be weights or what have you.

The most effective ways to train for fitness professionals to train are the ways that fitness professionals train. The most effective way for a bodybuilder to train, is the way a bodybuilder trains. I hope that makes sense, but arnold didnt write the book(in conjunction with another author) intending to "get people in shape", he wrote it to educate people on bodybuilding.People always complain about how bad his book is, yet they forget to read the title of the book.

Makes sense to me. However this isnt what we are talking about. We have a guy coming back into bb'ing after a 4 year gap and planning on using this torture method to make gains. I think a person can make gains working out 6 days a week, but weight training would be much tougher. What i am also saying is there are far more superior techniques out there that squash anything Arnold ever did.

agreed. i just hate how people shit on arnold's book when he has one of the most sought after physiques of all time, and they fail to realise what the true intention of the book is.

all that being said i think whoever started this thread should absolutely not use arnolds training program.

Its a bad book for the audience intended, regular people.

Yes genetic superfreaks, and those using anabolic steroids can gain on 6 days a week. 98 percent of the rest of the population really cant.

how is the book intended for regular people?

Thanks fellas for the various feed back. Thanks rmcfar for bringing the focus to my dilemma with the training routine I was following. For sometime the thread seemed to dwell on Arnold's venture into the world of writing..lol
I will just try to chalk out some routine following CowPimp's guidelies:
Monday:Upper (Pull)
Tuesday: Lower
Wednesday: Boxing
Thursday: Upper (push)
Friday: Lower
Sat & Sun: Off

Once again, thank you all.
Best,
Lonenomad
