How do you flavor rice without adding to many calories?
Cook it in sodium reduced vegetable stock
Add a clove of crushed galic, black pepper and mixed herbs when cooking
Add some lemon juice and salt-reduced tamari after cooking
Add any form of spice or herb you want
There are lots of things you can do.... Hell - even 0.5 tbs of sugar-free tomato sauce is not going to add 'too many calories'.
Is pasta high in sugar and in that sense 'bad for you'?
No. Pasta is not high in sugar.
Pasta is also not 'bad for you' per say.... Pasta is a processed starchy carbohydrate that is fairly calorie dense. This means you can easily overdose on the pasta and it is not very likely to fill you up.... (an actual 'serving size' of pasta is TINY!!). It is also often combined with nasty things like creamy sauces - which is not a good thing!!
Pasta also has very limited/none of the 'good stuff' such as the water vitamins, minerals, fibre, phytochemicals and anti-oxidants of many of the natural carbohydrates have (such as legumes, whole grains or starchy vegetables).
If you want to eat some, then do - but get the WHOLEGRAIN/LOW GI pasta (you can also get stuff with aded flax/fibre or pasta made from lower GI grains such as rye) and be VERY aware of your servings and what you add to it. You should also make sure you are also getting enough of the 'good stuff' (eg: the healthier carbs) too.
