Just seen some free weights for a pretty good price. 40lb set good to start out? Also, how much of the weight and how many sets should I do? What type of lifting? This will be my first time on the free weights pretty much.

I weigh 165 at 6'2 if this matters. Sorry still new to this thing. Thanks!

Glad to hear another person getting into lifting. If you insist on purchasing your own equipment, a squat rack, flat (adjustable) bench, a quality Olympic bar, and a bunch of plates is a good start. I'd recommend the gym membership route for most people.

In terms of your programming:

Almost regardless of your goals, the squat, deadlift, and bench press are the pillars of training. You can also add in the press and olympic lifts to that.

There's some information in the Getting Started link in my signature but I'd highly recommend investing in Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe.

alot of people are scared to go to the gym because they think there going to be the weakest there. fuck wat people think, get some info on here and join a gym it will be better in the long run. do u use gear or are u naturally? just make sure u train the arms, chest, back, shoulders, upper legs with squats, dead lifts are a must. calves, hamstrings, u hit them with stiff leg deadlifts. google all the body parts and get a basic routine. train mon- wed- fri. then after u made your foundation after 3 months go for 9 months on training mon- tues, off wed, train again thurs -fri. then after 1 yr your advanced train one time wk or 4 on 1 off 3 on 2 off cycle training that way. i was 13 when i started and iam 44, and, only missed 6 months in 32 plus yrs. so u can see, consistency is real important. but u have to do some research on your own. and look at wat people offer on here. if u dont like my idea try using another persons that chimes in on your thread. everybodys opinion youll find, will differ but, do wat best fits you, u only wat u think will help u only. a hint ask people, since your new to bbing, have and ask people, wat there talking about. i mean some use these big 10 dollar words that you wont understand. i wouldnt even read that post as youll get confused. iam a nurse and i know alot of worthless words that i could use that wouldnt help u. skip that bs or tell them to put into a way u understand. good luck and pick one that best fits u only and fuck people in the gym.

Join a gym that has good equipment, unless you have a lot of money to spend on a home set-up.
