im bulking something serious at the moment - a little over 6000 calories/day. i think my body, however, is too adjusted to a routine. id like to surprise it a little bit. i saw this on bodybuilding.com, im just looking for something to shock my body and help me gain mass. i would be doing this 3x a week:

Squats 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Leg Extensions 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Leg Curls 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Dumbbell Pullovers 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Barbell Overhead Shoulder Press 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Seated Rows 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Bench Press 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Barbell Bicep Curls 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Tricep Extensions 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Weighted Pullups 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Weighted Dips 1 X 8 - 10 reps
Standing Calf Raises 1 X 8 - 12 reps
Abs - 1 X 10 - 15 reps

any opinions? i know CowPimp has been doing the full body WO. i doubt i would be doing this for a long time, maybe just 4 weeks or so.

seriously, when i started here at IM, there were mature people on the board, who actually answered questions instead of being bitches. now you just see idiotic banter like the skinny guys/abs theread on this page.

that picture is of me FOUR YEARS AGO. i was 142 lbs. as you can see, i had reason to start lifting. i weigh over 65 lbs more than i did that day: was 208 last night.

get a fuckin life. some of us are here for productive purposes.

i agree, these boards have gone to hell. Just ignore those fools. As for the routine, i would just give it a try for a week or so and see how your body responds. If it works, stick with it but if it doesn't, keep changing up your routine and play around with the variables such as RI's, tempo's, rep ranges, weight, exercises et cetera until you get a feel of what is best for you.

Regardless if that picture was 4 years ago or not, those 2 posts were totally uncalled for and unprovoked. All of us come on these boards for information and to share our experiences, not to be badgered or be in fear of being embarassed by idiots who just want to post for numbers without anything useful to say.

I love total body routines. why do the same workout three times a week though?

Your routine will work but like Mr. Funk said why the same all three days.
Your 2nd workout switch things around.
Example:
For Legs.....Leg Presses.
For Chest....Incline DB's
For Back....Bent over Rows

Your 3rd workout switch things around again
Hack Squats
Decline Bench
T-Bar Rows

Ect, Ect

If anything, those posts should let you compare how you were then to how you look now, and you should be all the more proud of yourself. You can't escape idiots. Good quote: "If you make something idtiot-proof, someone will make a better idiot."

Oh, and I agree with the people who actually gave advice.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
I agree with P-funk and TOM....full body is good but if you do the same thing over and over your body will get use to it and habituation will occur and you will get very little from it. also taking a week off can be good from time to time. Allows muscles to rest and grow....a lot people are able to break through the wall after a good week off.

Today is the last day of my week off. It's actually been really weird. I've wanted to work out all week but I stopped myself from doing it because I knew I should take a break. Yesterday for some reason I was very weird emotionally. I was sad all day for no reason at all and I also felt sick. I'm guessing it was the result of my body getting used to resting and not working out, but I'm not completely sure.

I just started my rest because I injured my back and I wanted to go workout SO bad....so instead I have been here all day....go figure.

thanks guys, this workout is mainly just for shocking my body by throwing something new at it for a short time. ill have to switch up the excercises, well see how this goes.

squaggleboggin, im not concerned about the pics, im just astounded by the kind of fucktards that has seemed to overrun this board lately. thats why i dont really come here much anymore. im extremely proud of my gains, and have no issues with the way i look/looked.

That's what I figured, I was just trying to cheer you up, even though you didn't seem sad. Oh well, that's just what I do. The sad part is that the people who really do know what they're doing - such as you - don't come here as much anymore because of people like them. That just makes them the majority. :(

The first thing I notice is that you are neglecting something that almost everyone does: a compound movement that primarily hits the posterior chain. I'm talking deadlifts of some form, good mornings, or glute ham raises.

Horizontal and vertical plane of motion pulling movements: Good.

Horizontal and verical plane of motion pushing movemnts: Good.

I would also suggest having 2-4 different full body workouts that you cycle through. There is nothing wrong with using that same routine per se, but I have a feeling you will get bored quickly.

Feel free to check my journal for exercise ideas.

thanks, you're the man when it comes to this stuff. ill alternate deads and good mornings.

btw, i tried this wo last nite, and i have never sweat that much in my life. was trying to go thru it in about 40 minutes. felt damn good tho.

DD, thats what i found when I did HST. The speed at which you workout really keeps the heart rate elevated throughout the routine, resulting in more of a cardio benefit than with more "conventional" routines.

People are easily fooled by fullbody routines...they can be pretty grueling. Good luck.

Full body routines are excellent for conditioning if you choose to use fairly low rest intervals.

Hey bro i think he'll be ok without the deads if this is just a few week regimen for shocking the body.

Wouldn't this type of workout be counterproductive to his goals if he really is trying to gain mass though??

You would be suprised as to what a fullbody routine could do for your physique!!!
I followed one with the help of Brother P-Funk, and it helped me out tremendously!!! Good luck with it my Friend!!!

How so? Full body workouts can be just as effective as a standard split routine for gaining mass. The most mass I ever gained occured while I was doing a full body routine.

Cow - could you post your full body workout?
I'd like to try one but I couldn't imagine doing only ONE set of each.

Workout 1:
Olympic Squats x 1
Military Press x 1
Bent Rows x 1
Farmer's Walks x 1
Full Decline Situps x 2

Workout 2:
Deadlifts x 1
Bench Press x 1
Turkish Getups x 1
Side Bends x 2
Curls x 1

Workout 3:
Bottom Squats x 1
DB Military Press x 1
Pullups x 1
Farmer's Walks x 1
Hanging Leg Raises x 2

Workout 4:
Good Mornings x 1
Bench Press x 1
Cleans x 3
Calf Raises x 1

This doesn't include warmup sets. Most items are in the 4-6 rep range. However, I do go heavier occasionally, and higher (Like 8-20) for abs and calves.

I'm considering going lighter for a bit, because I have been hitting doubles and triples on the big 3 a bunch lately. I figure my CNS could use a break, as much as I like going really heavy.

thanks for the info, CP. im going to switch things up to put a few more compound excercises in there, less isolation stuff.

and, btw, for the geniuses at the beginning of the thread, this is the result of bulking. 70 lbs of results:
