Im bulking right now and ive got a question. I have been gaining weight at the rate of about 1lb (mostly fat) per week for the last 6weeks or so. Is this normal or is it tooo rapid?

My calroie intake is almost 3,000 a day.

Im 17yrs old
Weigh 165
5'7
unkown bf%

A pound of week seems fine to me. However, how is your diet looking? You mentioned it is mostly fat.

When I said its mostly fat I meant the weight im gaining. Im assuming this. Even though my Bench press and squats have skyrocketed in the past 6wks there is no way someone can gain that much muscle that quick.

Sorry I meant the weight you were gaining, I just worded that poorly. Well anyone would gain fat along with muscle on a bulking diet. If your weight and strength is going up then you are doing things well I would imagine. Did you just start lifting weights? Alot of people can gain weight quickly when they first start.

No, this is my second year of serious weight training. and yes I did gain even more weight when I started. Jus wanted to know if 1lb/ a wk is healthy,

thanks

Yes, 1lb per week is VERY healthy. If your weights are increasing this is a good sign and most of it is LBM and not fat.

I've been bulking for the last month now at the rate of 4lbs per week. From what I see on me I've only really been gaining muscle mass and I'm taking in 3500 calories per day at 6'2" and 155lbs. I've been upping my weights further than I have before I started bulking aswell. Each week I can do more and more. :)

Anyways, if you're happy with 1lb per week then it's probably a good thing as I would think that you'd be mainly getting muscle mass rather than fat. I say this because I don't have a lot of fat on me at all with gaining as much as I do each week.

4lbs per week is too much - I would be pretty confident to say that half of that gain is fat. You shouldn't be gaining more than 2lbs per week. Well, unless you are using AAS then I suppose 4lbs is fine but I don't know for sure on that.

Even if it was ALL fat I wouldn't care. I was down to 135lbs which you can obviously tell that I was quite underweight for someone of my height and age (20years old)

I feel better about the way I look now so that's all that really matters. But I can assure you, it's mostly muscle :)

I know exactly what your saying man. Im about 6'1" 20yrs old 135 lbs and i havent gained a pound or lost a pound since i was in probly 9th grade. I no exactly what u mean when u say u wouldnt car if it is 4 lbs of fat. I wouldnt care if i gained 5 lbs a day because i think i would have an easier time loosing fat than trying to gain it. I can not stand being skinny. My bulking starts this monday.

Yeah, if you're like me then losing weight will come even easier than gaining. I've lost 5lbs because I couldn't eat a couple meals on the days I worked out during a 2 - 3 day period O_O
