If having a gay bishop somehow keeps one person from dying from a drive-by shooting, drug overdose or any other unnatural event, then it's been worth it. :)

mormons

hey oceandude you also have to remember that those who were practicing plural marriage would have been put in jail if they did not stop.

churchs

I think churchs need to stop changing their doctrine to satisfy their congregations. They need to stop trying to please people just to keep them in the church. To me that sounds like they are trying to keep their numbers up instead of following their beliefs. Is the church, a church of God or a church of man?

I tend to agree ace. If they water down the theology just to tell people what they want to hear then its nothing more than a Club. In which case they might as all just go join the Lions Club, Kiwanis, Elks or Shriners, drink beer and have a good time driving motorcycles and doing fund raisers and having fun together or something.

If a denomination does not consistently stick to sound principals then they will always end up taking the path of least resistance. It's way to easy to have no core principals and say "oh cool - I can relate to what your saying - just do whatever you want we are all here just to be with each other, hold hands and sing kumbaya around the campfire and roast marshmallows.

That is why I have a problem with the church. We can go back to at least the 1400s and point out bribery in the churchs, pay us to absolve your sins blah blah. Mankind gets his hands on anything and he just fooks it up IMO.

I'm sure he is not forgetting, the point is that the Mormons "backed off on thier belief" that it was thier right to do so, when again according to what I am told is it is based on them following the law of the land they live on. What is the truth? Who knows, since this happened a very long time ago.

Well Mudge, the problem with holding the past against someone is that - things change. If the church is still to be held accountable for some actions (which not all of the church took part in) from the 1400s... then by the same account are we still to be held accountable for our ancestors giving blankets to the Indians that were diseased in exchange for land, or having slaves, or whatever. But you are right, the Church needs to stop changing doctrine to suit groups they wish to romance. Certainly not all denominations are so quick to jump on the bandwagon to try and ride societal change.

Democracy was never about protecting the minority... it was always about promoting the best interests of the majority. Unfortunately people arent nearly as smart as we think they are, which has proven to be the primary flaw with Democracy. Overall though, it still beats the heck out the alternatives!

With respect to the gay bishop, would the Episcopalians elected a bishop who was living with a woman outside of marriage? By electing this individual to such a lofty status, the Epicopalians have implied that traditional mores and norms are no longer valid.

Don't feel bad for me, I'm happy with my life. I don't believe in god, and that's fine with me.

I second that bro!:thumb:
