Hello,

About 1 week ago I (and don't ask me how) managed to slam my finger in my locked car door. I was stuck there for about 5 minutes before someone came to help me out and when I finally got out my finger looked like it had pretty much been crushed completely (it was totally flat and shifted over). Anyway, after going to the ER and waiting for a while it started to regain it's shape and I could move it again. When I saw the doctor he said that i was really lucky and didn't break anything. So anyway, they bandaged me up and gave me a tetnus shot (part of my glove was stuck in the skin) and i went back to work. That happened on monday and now I can move my finger pretty good and the cut is starting to heal up but I really don't have much feeling in the tip of my finger. It's just sorta got this numb feeling, sorta like when your foot falls asleep. And it hurts a bit if i squeeze it or hit it on something. What do you think could be causing this? Do you think i'll get the feeling back eventually?
Any thoughts would be great! (other than how the hell I managed to do this :hmmm: I know, i"m a klutz apparently....)

You probably killed a nerve in your finger. Sometimes nerves regenerate, sometimes they don't. It's naturally going to hurt if you hit it or squeeze it since you shut it in a car door. :D

It's called neuropraxia but you will eventually get the feeling back although regeneration of these peripheral nerves can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to a year. http://www.ncvstudy.com/page2.htm

You rock bandaidwoman

Its so nice to have you around!!!

I was walking downhill on an iced road and slid and fell on my right knee. Its about a year later and I still can't feel parts of the skin and if I kneel on it just right, it stings. I feel your pain and like bandaidwoman said, it may take years to heal. Oh well. :blah:

How? ;)

That's a really great question...I dont' know I was sorta in a rush and then bang, my fingers in the door....maybe I'm just a clutz...haha. Good news though, the fingers starting to heal and I can feel textures with it now. still sorta tingly though...but it's getting better! thanks for the posts!

Hi Shannon,

It sounds as if you may have cause nerve damage. Check checked out completely to be sure. Some places you do not want to "cut corners".

KNOW for sure if possible. See someone that knows what they are doing.

Take Care, John H.
