Wow 72k/year to start? Or are you talking about having your experience?

Out here in NYC they start at around 30k/year. I know they recently got a new contract but its still kindda shitty, although i thought i heard 80k after 5 years or something of that nature. I wanted to be a cop for a while but the pay is not worth what the job entails IMO, especially out here. And to get a job out of NYC as a cop, the waiting list is like 1.5 years minimum.

damn dude....in new york you would be just a number...when I applied to the police department here, they hired about 20 people ONCE A YEAR, and about 1400 applied...I think that our department (along wiht all the medals and praises we have recieved) is one of the best for sure, and im talking about the officers not the idiotic attention seeking brass.....In san antionio it is 72K a year to start but they would include my experience, language skills and all the certifications....Being a NYC cop must suck dude, wouldn't want to do it...im pretty sure that my next career will either be in europe or as a pilot here in the usa..

It does suck to be a cop out here, they get paid shit and that is why i would never do it.

Unfortunately i find that most of the guys who become cops out here do it because they can't do anything else with their lives' and just want a badge and gun. The guys that i know who became cops did it because they failed at pretty much everything else in life, went to community college, took a bunch of yoga classes to get their 60 credits and went on the job. The pay doesn't really attract the best of the best if you know what i mean.

What other career options are you looking into in Europe? Being a pilot would be awesome, but from i know it takes a ton of time and money to get the necessary hours to fly the big multiple engine boeings and such. My friend tried to do it but didn't get passed flying single engine cessna's cause he ran out of money.

thank god that money is not my greatest concern, i am very financially stable and have other income....but I am very sure that I can get a flight seat in the military.....In europe I could work for the American Embassy..........

BUT:
Im gona have to slightly disagree...The people who wokr wiht me are the best of the best, they are people (like me) who dreamt their whole lifes to become cops and "do the right thing", wiht the competition fearce, becoming a cop here means that you didnt just wake up one morminng and became a cop because there is nothing else to do out there.....I have several year under my belt and I have never seen any excessive use of force or any form of misconduct of "coruption" from any of the officers I work for, but i cant say the same from out "brass"... I have let guilty people go free becasue i didnt want to jeopardise my integrity before...This is why I am very very protective of cops, and when I quit this job even when i get pulled over by a less than friendly cop, i will never say he is an asshole because I have walked a mile in their shoes....It's a noble honest way to make a living and 99% mean good even if they fuck up occasionally...

You will probably drop $100K between courses and flying hours, and that will just get you a shit job making minimum wage for some small regional airline. To get with some larger airlines you need over 5000hrs of flying experience.

I should have clarified. I was only speaking from my perspective. I'm sure there are great cops in NYC, just i find the majority of the people who become cops (i know quite a few who are or are going to be cops) they do it not for the job but for other reasons (last option, power hungry etc).

Yup thats what i heard. The guy i know who tried busted his ass for a long time working 2-3 jobs, but got burned out in the end and he wasn't even close to making any money out of it.

i don;t think i want to fly large regionals....I live in utah, wiht wymoing and idaho surounding us this means that there are many small mountain towns that need their mail and boxed delivered by plane....I would be able to fly a cessan caravan early in the morning and come back 8-10 hours later work 3-4 times a week and earn about 60K a year...which is plenty for me to stay happy and healthy, free of stress and being able to live a normal life just like everyone else...i miss being a normal sheep.........

(last option, power hungry etc).

Again, im sure it happens but I haven't met anyone like that yet...I have met wanna be's who will or would never make it in but thats about it.....

im taking the NYPD test in march...shit pay to start, but after 5 yrs. they get 90 grand automatically...not my first option, prolly transfer into FDNY....

I believe it, out in Long Island the private police force starts at something like 60k i believe. Its just a 1.5+ year waiting list.

im quiting soon to start a new career and oh boy will my last day be a good one (for me)...

You're really starting a new career?

What industry are you interested in, if you know at this time?

Just curious.

Yeah i spoke to a couple of guys that worked in hempstead (i think, i'm not too good with LI) and they were telling me that the pay is great but its close to impossible to get on because they take so few people and the ones that get on, stay on.

I am not buying these yearly wages unless it counts overtime.
Shit man don't you know once you have five years on the force they start cutting you in on the mafia payoffs....don't play stupid just because you think it's a big secret...

Its true...at least with the nypd..it even says on their internet page, you can make upwards of 85000 after overtime within 5 years...but it just so happens that most cops do work plenty of overtime...bottom line is that number is with overtime not before it.

Is it so hard to spell obeying?

I wonder what your police reports look like..

"teh defandent wuz slingin rox on the streetz and then i tackled hem and red him the meranduh rites"

Is this for real? Are you really a cop? I'd guess you're a troll trying to act like the stereotypical idiot police officer.

I sure am glad you're out there on the streets with a gun. I feel really safe now. "Best of the best" ... I bet.
