Heard something on the radio yesterday about the new and large Gold's Gym
in the city I live in.
It was a Gold's Gym advertisement mentioning a change there which is not allowing bodybuilding anymore. Anybody hear of this happening at the Gold's
around your area?
I went onto the website for my local Gold's Gym and sure enough, I found a
mention of it there. Could Gold's be going the way of Planet Fitness?
Here's a poster from the site...I live in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Bullshit, they are just trying to attract more casual people, like nintendo did with the wii, bodybuilding will still be allowed

Casual people? I don't need more people socializing in the gym. If you want that shit go to a bar. You go to the gym to improve yourself.

dang if they become planet fitness I hope none of you members use more then 50lbs DB's. :D

The gym I work out at has a similar policy. They do not wish to attract bodybuilders as they said they scare other users, espically women, out of the gym. I can kind of see the reasoning behind it, I study marketing and management at uni so it makes sense from that standpoint.

But the bodybuilder in my think that its a bunch of shit.

superman - I live in Newcastle, where abouts you from?

They are marketing to a larger population. A Gold's I used to go to was already going down this path.

What do they spent with their improvement capital? - new power rack? more dumb bells? more cardio equipment?

No, several leather couches, big screen TV's and a smoothie bar.

My gym now has a free room which is open from the morning until 9 at night where you can go and watch free cable in comfy sofas......

I have been a member here for 4 months and have yet to visit this place.

They can afford the above, but yet they have no t-bar row, no calve machines, and a somewhat unsafe squat station. Its still free bar squats but the safety bars are not adjustable. A cage would be much better.

But wait....oh shit a proper squat cage might attract bodybuilders.:finger:

The Gold's I went to also had un-even ground under one of the squat stations.

mine has three different kind of smith machines but no cage.

Man thats BS. Its gettin hard to find any old school muscle head gym's anymore.

Last time I called to find a good gym. I went through about 10 gym's asking if they had 150lb DB's before I actually found one that did. Most said, "80lbs is the highest we have".

yea, Gold's has been leaning a little more towards the general fitness facility circle each year.

The one out here is a big gym, with lots of cardio, a nice little day care center, etc...they are trying to appeal to the crowds that frequent places like lifetime fitness, who are looking for more of that "family" atmosphere.

It sucks because they built their foundation on being a hardcore place for bodybuilders, which turned away a lot of family type people. You can't be all things to all people and it is important to have a niche. Over the past few years, Gold's tried to be all things to all people, as they slowly changed their image. It looks like they are trying to appeal to a new niche now.

24hr fitness is where i go.. and im glad. the db's go to 150lbs, they have squat racks and a deadlift area, for cleans and dl's

I can relate to what you all are saying. The gym I go to has a much bigger turn out for the classes(ie,bodypump, etc.)than it has for the workout area's. I spend my time downstairs with the free weights and it seems there are getting fewer and fewer of us. But then I go during the day and it's never busy. I hear in the evenings they have a pretty good crowd but thats not what I want.I go there to lift and get out.
