I was kinda iffy at first, but this looks like it might be pretty good. I like the campy feel of the first ones, and it looks like they tried to keep some of that in there.

‘Magazine Dreams’ Jonathan Majors On Transforming To Play A Troubled Bodybuilder, Joining Marvel Universe & Getting Punched Really Hard By Michael B. Jordan In ‘Creed III’

jonathan-majors.jpg

For his first interview on the edgy drama Magazine Dreams that makes its Sundance Premiere tonight (January 20) at Eccles, Jonathan Majors was pulling into Park City after driving for days cross country from New York. While Majors is one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars after turns in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Lovecraft Country, The Harder They Fall and Da 5 Bloods, he was not going to drive up a small film’s limited budget with pricey airfare. Magazine Dreams is written and directed by Elijah Bynum, and produced by Jennifer Fox, Dan Gilroy, Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman. Fox & Gilroy made Nightcrawler.

Just like the unhinged photog played by Jake Gyllenhaal, Majors has gone all-in physically and emotionally to transform himself into the equally extreme Killian Maddox. An aspiring amateur bodybuilder, Maddox is socially awkward and slavishly devoted to the solitary pursuit of body culture, and the drama traces how his obsession plunges him down the proverbial rabbit hole in an effort to be noticed for his physique. It is a tour de force performance that will conjure memories of De Niro’s Travis Bickle, and the work Majors put in physically is impossible to not notice. Here, Majors talks about the film’s truths about the invisibility and stereotyping of many people, and the ensuing darkness that creates emotional combustion that often end in tragedy.

Actor Lance Kerwin Dies at 62

Actor Lance Kerwin has died. The performer, who is known for his work in shows like James at 15 and Salem’s Lot, was just 62 years old.

News of Kerwin’s death was reportedly revealed by his daughter Savanah, according to Variety. Kerwin died Tuesday, January 24, in San Clemente, California, and an autopsy is being conducted to determine a cause of death.

As previously stated, Kerwin was best known for his TV roles in James at 15 and the mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s supernatural Salem’s Lot, in which he played teen vampire hunter Mark Petrie. Initially beginning his career in the early 1970s, Kerwin made a name for himself as a child actor appearing in after-school specials like The Boy Who Drank Too Much.

Leading the series James at 15, Kerwin appeared in the show as James Hunter, who, after two seasons between 1977 and 1988, saw the title transformed into James at 16. Along with that and Salem’s Lot, Kerwin made television appearances throughout the years, playing parts in titles such as Emergency!, Gunsmoke, Wonder Woman, Murder, She Wrote, and The New Lassie.

Meanwhile, he also featured in the 1995 film Outbreak alongside a cast that included Morgan Freeman, Renee Russo, Dustin Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, and Cuba Gooding Jr., among others. That was Kerwin’s last film role until 2022, when he appeared in the film The Wind & The Reckoning.

Following his initial run in acting, Kerwin reportedly went on to become a youth pastor. He is survived by his five children, Savanah, Fox, Terah, Kailani, and Justus.

Michael Jackson's nephew Jaafar Jackson to play the King of Pop in Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic has found its King of Pop.

Director Antoine Fuqua (Emancipation) revealed on Instagram Monday morning that Jackson's nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will play the iconic musician in the upcoming Michael.

"Proud to announce @jafaarjackson as Michael — the motion picture event that explores the journey of the man who became the King of Pop. Coming soon," Fuqua wrote alongside a photo of Jaafar practicing some of Michael's legendary moves in a very familiar outfit.

Michael is the latest in a recent trend of musician biopics that have so far fared well with both audiences and awards bodies. Baz Luhrmann's Elvis, for example, netted eight Oscar nominations last week, with star Austin Butler a strong contender to win Best Actor. In 2019, Rami Malek earned that very trophy for his portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. It's no surprise that one of the producers behind Bohemian Rhapsody, Graham King, is also working on Michael.

Closer to home, the jukebox musical MJ The Musical has been successful on Broadway, grossing millions in ticket sales and earning lead actor Myles Frost the award for Best Actor in a Musical at the 2022 Tony Awards.

Deadline reports that the film "will not shy away from the controversies of Jackson's life," most notably the multiple allegations of child sexual abuse (for which Jackson was tried and acquitted in 2005). A decade after Jackson's 2009 death at the age of 50, those allegations were explored in the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, in which Wade Robson and James Safechuck alleged that Jackson sexually molested them for years when they were children. The Jackson estate has called those allegations "absolutely false."

Those interested in Jaafar's talents can check out the music video for his 2019 song "Got Me Singing," which has more than 8 million views on YouTube.
