I know That Body Bulding and Drinking Soda every day Doesnt Stunt your Growth, but does not going outside stunt your Growth? I never Have time to go outside for a long period of time and Im pretty short. Im just afraid I wont grow any more.

Excess sugar and acidity from sodas *does* indeed have consequences on health - on both liver and gut.

These indirectly affect growth hormone production. Your presumption of "no effect" from soda consumption is incorrect.

Lack of adequate sunlight results in reduced vitamin D production. This can have an direct negative effect on bone mineralization and growth. The answer to your question is yes, but there are other factors to be considered as well, such as diet, exercise, sleep and excessive worry and stress.

Well maybe you can help me out.

Here is usally my Scheduale. I wake up around 5:00 or 6:00 to get ready to go to school at around 8:00. I dont eat lunch at shcool, but when I come home at 2:30.. walking at least 1 and a half of mile everyday from School to house. When I come home I grab a TV dinner, then work out. I then go to work in till 8:00. I do my Homework and stuff on my computer in till 11:00 or 12:00, then bed. I sometimes play a little basket ball for 30 minutes to an hour.

Is this alright what I am doing or Should I put going outside a big priority. Next week I will be going at the gym so that will be added in. Plus I will quit drinking Soda and more water. Im a Sophmore in High school. I am like 3 inches taller then my mom and 3 inches shorter then my dad. I belive Im 5,3 o 5,5 weighing about 180. My Grandfather is about 6,3 which i wish I was and What I will hope to be. Do I still have a Chance to grow a little more If I put more outside time and drink more water?

Its not that you're not getting outside (you walk to and from school).

Your problems are inadequate nutrition and lack of sleep.

Your diet is contributing to nutrient deficiency that can slow or retard normal bone and mass growth.

The worst problem is sleep deprivation. You go to sleep too late in the day. You need to be in bed by 10, no later than 10:30pm each night. You should wake up at 5:30 or 6 (maintaining at least 7.5 hrs of sleep at night - teens in active growth need more rest than adults. If you plan to become more active, its essential to your fitness progress that you get adequate rest.

Lack of sleep can indeed directly contribute to growth problems by reducing growth hormone release and vitamin D3 synthesis in liver. It can negatively affect mood and attention, GI function (worsening your malnurition), and cause immune system problems - seasonal and food allergies, as welll as hinder tissue repair that is important to growth. Worse, it can compromise your ability to avoid colds, flu and other viral and bacterial infections.

Does this make sense? Post a request for help with your diet in the Diet/Nutrition section - but only after you read the stickies (important permanent threads at the top of the subforum page) on proper diet, how to calculate calorie needs, macronutrient balance, etc.

Good luck. Hope this helps you. BTW, you are young enough, that you may simply not have started your serious growth sprurt, which can occur as late as 18-20...but, your present lifestyle is NOT going to help encourage growth to your natural potential. Changes are necessary, I hope you understand why.

Why do you arbitrarily insert a capital letter at the beginning of some of your words in mid sentence?

Thanks for all the help. It does make sense to me now. Also sorry about my capitals.

Also It says to drink 8 glasses of water a day. I can never finish a water, I will take sips then not drink anything for awhile. Would Gatorade be good, i could drink 10 of those in a day? Or should I just try sticking with water?

stick with the water Mike.

Gatorade might taste good, but it is not water.

When your diet picks up and is more consistant, you'll find your internal chemistry shifting - and you'll feel more thirsty. For years, I had no thirst. I worked at one time, for a kidney specialist, a big name researcher. For months, he observed me working every day in the lab, and finally took me aside. He asked, don't you ever drink water? I said nooo, never thirsty. He said, well, you can plan on having kidney problems later in life if you don't start drinking normal amounts of water now.

What I got where intense headaches. They weren't directly caused by the lack of water, but it surely contributed to the dehyradation state that helped trigger these headaches.

So, you just have to drink, whatever you can, every few minutes, until you get into the rhythm of drinking water regularly.

There is nothing that can cause catabolism faster (lack of growth) than chronic dehydration, except...maybe a lack of oxygen. Its that fundamental to function.

Edit: On a hunch, I went looking for ties between reduced binding of vitamin d3 and angiotensin/renin and its connection to thirst.

Low thirst --> low blood volume --> hypotension. Normally, that will trigger thrist. BUT.

Low vit D3 --> abnormal action of thirst receptor --> low vit D3 status

So, it seems plausible that periods of extended lack of exposure to sunlight that stimulates D3 coupled with late night photoreceptor exposure in the eye (from computer screens), could be connected to unusually low production of both vitamin D3 and proper melatonin release at night.

Intersting idea anyway.

I will probably need to try that sometime.

I been drinking a lot of water but my diet is still pretty bad.
I read that its best to eat 6 meals a day but I am un sure of what I should eat. If you can help me with that, that would be great.

Also if you could also help me on what I should do to loose weight around the chest and the face area. What I have been doing to loose weight around those areas was running on a treadmill at the gym for 10 minutes at 7.0 speed, for 4 days every week. Should I do more time,Speed or what?

so u are getting plenty of sun and plenty of water ,,now all u need is a good fertiliser;) and thats whole foods ,,throw the tv dinners in the bin

Well I have not eaten TV dinners for a long time.

I have been eating full meals. Im not sure if its enof or if its to much. So my question would be what vitamins I need most or protien, ect?

hey mike, I'm curious about your diet. Post what you eat in a day from breakfast to the last meal of the day. Also what are your short term goals? Long term?

Hey Mike,

I wouldn't worry about this so much! You know you need to sleep more and eat better. My son, 21... spends too much time on the computer, doesn't sleep enough and has aweful habits. His dad (me) looked like his skinny undernourished little butt at his age. Your height is mostly determined by genetics. Doing the things suggested can certainly only help you.

BTW - My son has a GORGEOUS girlfriend!! He's a smart kid.

hey jim, stop peaking up your son's girlfreinds dress...perv!!

She's hot?

LOL

I can't help myself. She's a petite southern beauty with more than an ample supply up top. Hell, I never had access to anything so heavenly at his age, or any age. As long as a gal smelled okay... it was good for me.

He sees me leering, and smiles.

Smart boy.

This is a bit off topic? I'm trying to promote "brains over brawn" - help me out!

Hey,

Your icon looks pretty darn good to me! Those would be the best tits I ever had.

I think the moderator needs to file the last few post of this thread under "The quickest degeneration of a topic possible." LOL

Juggernaut! You are a Fat Bastard!!! Lol

This is kind of off topic, but I was recently doing some research about height growth and things that affect it and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any correlation between smoking and height? (obviously no one would be advised to smoke...just wondering if there was a specific link).

I used to drink about 8 sodas a day. Seriously. If I had anything else it was coffee loaded with sugar. I now drink water, coffee with nothing, and one diet soda a day. Maybe some crystal light once in awhile. The way I feel compared to before is tremendous. As soon as I quit drinking it, I dropped 30 pounds in about 3 weeks. I know that's too fast but there's nothing I could do about it... It just went!
