The Difference Between The Liberal and Conservative "Debate"
on gun control

Question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner and is running at you while screaming obscenities. In your hand is a Glock .40 and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

Liberal Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his
knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion.

BANG!

Texan's Answer:
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click...
(sounds of clip being ejected and fresh clip installed)
Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving,
what do you kids think?"
Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..."
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Daughter: "Nice grouping Daddy!"

I'm consevative all the way and the law would be on my side.

How did you know the Texan answer?

Yes, first time I shot a gun I was 4 years old. I grew up with a loaded fully auto machine gun in my parents closet and a loaded sawed off riot shot gun by the front door. Loaded pistols could be found in different drawers around the house.

Just try to break in to my house.

I used to be anti-gun, but I think my opinion of that is changing. I seem to be more pro gun control than I am anti-gun. There is a big difference between the two.

Yup I'd rather see people support gun control rather than the anti-gun way of thinking.

Anti-gun just isn't a good thing. It would keep good people from being able to arm themselves where as the criminals would still get ahold of them some how.

Interestingly enough, it is message boards like this that have swayed my opinion (politicians and the media were unable to convince me). I am starting to believe that responsible people can own guns while posing little or no risk to the community.

Damn straight :D

I don't care what you call it, I just want to be able to protect myself and family.

I think I would have shot the guy in the shoulder. Then if he still tried to come after me I'd shoot to kill.

Well, well, well...

All us gun nuts are not REALLY nuts. :D

I'd like to know the big difference.

I see a slight difference, but not a big one.

Gun Control only applies to law abiding citizens. It's a good idea to make them have gun locks while the bad dudes are rollin' up alongside without them. /sarcasm

First of all, I wouldn't be holding a Glock...HK for me :)

...running towards the direction of my family and I, wielding a knife and screaming, that's enough justification for me to shoot.

Unfortunately there's NOT a big difference between the two in most politician's minds. The catch-phrase used to be "reasonable gun control". That meant legislation to keep guns out of the hands of convicted criminals, mentally unstable individuals, etc. Now it's morphed into NOBODY SHOULD HAVE GUNS.

Well, IMO there is a big difference by definition. It seems to me that "gun control" means laws, background checks, training, etc, while "anti-gun" means no guns for anyone, regardless of what the gun's purpose will be (hunting, protection, etc).

There is no question.......I would double tap him in the chest.....and maintain cover till the police arrived.....

The one thing I'd add to that list, and the thing most every law abiding gun owner would also add is ENFORCEMENT. You can't possibly count the number of gun control laws already on the books but almost none of them get enforced. The anti's keep touting the effectiveness of the Brady Law in that it's kept umpteen thousand guns out of the hands of vicious criminals. BULLSHIT In the entire time Brady has been a law 98% of these vicious criminals have later been identified as mis-hits, they were actually honest citizens that had been mis-identified. Now for the BIG question. Since Brady is a Federal law and it's a Federal felony to attempt to purchase a firearm illegally under Brady that means the other 2% of the identified persons are in jail, right? WRONG! There hasn't been a single conviction under the Brady law in the entire country since it's signing. Not only hasn't there been a single conviction, there haven't even been any trials under Brady. Why? Damn good question. It all gets back to what I said, ENFORCEMENT

I feel I must clarify my answer. I'm conservative in the fact that it's a crime to waste good ammo when one, well placed shot will do.

using a hammer just means you have to get too close to the idiot to use it.

I don't think that's advisable.

IAB, you must remember this.........I have always been a avid gun owner and always will be. I have seen these background checks, and whatever else they call it. It is just a front and first attempt to make other anti-gun laws! Once they get their foot in the door Bam and that's it. Don't fall for the anti-gun sentiment. If instant checks worked, I would be for them, but they don't work. No one has the manpower! And I think gunowners are some of the most respected citizens. They have to be.......they are always under the gun(no pun intended) and always being watched to make sure they are above reproach!
