i was talking to a friend of mine and he said that he got his six pack by doing 200 crunches everyday for 2 weeks. is this apporpriate or will doing so many a day decrease the growth of my abdominal muscles?

First of all, if it happened in two weeks, he had to have been extremely close to having a visible six pack in the first place.

Secondly, it's possible to do that. The body will adapt. I used to do several hundred a night before I knew what I was doing. I stopped getting sore after a week or two.

Third, just realize that this probably isn't the best way to go about it. If you're skinny, you need to add mass to your abs to see them (read the stickies). If you're overweight, you need to use your skills in the kitchen to lose that weight in order to see your abs (see Diet and Nutrition section).

Finally, stuff happens. Sometimes people are freaks and sometimes things go well even when they shouldn't according to current theory. It just happens sometimes. So in any event, it's still possible. It's just probably not the best way to go about achieving such a goal.

If he said that, he is an idiot. Next question. :)
