I need heavy weights for my calf and the hack squat machine just isn't giving me the range and position that I would like. Is there anything I can do to be able to get full range like a calf machine?

I am still visiting/free pass to other local gyms. Haven't joined that particular Gold's Gym yet.

Worst pain I've ever done on calves...

Stand on edge of step w/single leg...
non-working other leg, raised and crossed behind knee of working leg...

hold dumbell or plate in opposite hand of working leg side..

Perform calf raise max stretch; through, max "physical" contraction (onto toes)

You may not be able to do these with anything other than BW to begin

I do one-legged standing calf-raises with a dumbbell whenever I do legs and/or calves.

For sit-down calf-raises to hit your soleus, you can sit on a bench with a barbell (with weights of course) resting on the front of your legs near your knees and do 'sit-down calf raises' this way. Sit-down machine seems to work a lot better, though.

Put a boot in the ass of the Gym Owner and tell him to get a damn calf machine.

How about using the lying leg press? Always works for me and you can load it up! ;)

Thats what I use to cecilia, works great. I just stick a 2X4 on the foot plate for the extra stretch
