Today I used my hex bar and instead of doing deadlifts with it I pulled it up to the middle of my chest working out my triceps alongside a nice contraction in my upperbackand traps.

Has anyone tried this before?

What do you think about it?

Bare in mind I've never done dips before because I don't like them, (only because I suck at them haha) but this looked like it resembled a dip apart from I was pulling up a hexbar with weights on. It felt good.

Also to those that don't know what bar I am talking about this is it http://worldfitnessnetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/hex-bar.jpg

Sounds like you did an upright row, not a dip. :)

Sounds like what you did was a sort of combination of an upright row and side raise.
If you felt it in your triceps, something is seriously wrong with your nerves. You did a pulling exercise, so your triceps should be lengthening, not contracting... i.e. any activation of the triceps would be resisting the movement. Are you sure you weren't feeling it in the mid or rear delts, and perhaps it simply felt like it was triceps since it was on the back of your arm/shoulder?

Sounds like a waste of time.
