High schooler faces 38 years in prison for changing his grades

agreed, he should get an award for his hacking abilities.

Probably will.

I thought one of the most disturbing things was the smartass remark of the cop, something along the lines of "I bet he wishes he devoted his efforts to studying now!" Yeah, really? You think he doesn't want to face up to 38 years in prison? Someone give this man a Nobel Prize for his intellect please.

Shouldn't get any jail time, but he should be punished.

what a horrible justice system, is that Cuba?

How about a scholarship, and a job at Microsoft.

They came close to hiring a noted PERL hacker back in the days, but they are wary to associate with too many on more than a consultancy basis.

man that kid should be given something that was smart my friends and i would of loved that to happen to us in highschool well....except the getting arrested part

I don't see what he did as being that difficult. He broke into his school and installed some spyware. Whoopdedoo.

It isn't. He didn't hack anything. He found the passwords, and installed a backdoor for remote desktop. Neither of which is even considered hacking.

We did the same thing in 9th grade back in 1997. The dumbass principle had administrator rights to the school computer grade system, and he used his last name as the password. We were just fooling around when we discovered it. We didn't do stupid shit like change grades, but we did add a few classes to the curriculum as a joke.

What he did is called social engineering, not hacking.
