It was my b-day back on the 3rd of this month, and we celebrated pretty good. Then it was cinco de mayo, then it was something else, and something else.

Needless to say I've been hit by the party bus, but I figure its only fair. I've been adhearing to a clean diet for the first time in my life and pretty much dropped my old way of life cold turkey. What is positive is that I am in no way quiting this way of life, just that I got slightly off track.

So on with my question, I know its time for me to get back to it and get things in order. I've still been eating all of my meals, and actually was still losing weight (not sure if muscle or fat) until last week. This week I put on six. Am I the only one who's gotten slightly de-railed or is this type of rebellion normal. Honestly, I'm pretty stoked that I lasted four months without breaking the rules before hand.

Something about the summer months and BBQ's that brings on the beer. Damn that vile drink:roflmao:

you need to learn to be more flexible with your life.

you can't go 4 months of a perfectly healthy lifestyle and then just blow it with three weeks of nonsense.

the whole goal is that you are going through a lifestyle change.

We eat for pleasure. We (well not me) drink for pleasure. Those are great things and you should not deprive yourself of them. You need to learn how to work things that you enjoy (foods/drinks) into your healthy lifestly in moderation, instead of keeping it strict for so long and then flying off the rocker for several weeks at time.

Or you could just be like me and eat, drink and be merry everyday.

I'm seeing the Chapelle Show sketch in my head right now. "Welcome to the China Club"

Very true, I need to work at finding that delicate balance. I went for a run before work today and feel so much better. I've been in the gym and cardio still, but just getting out for a good endurance run felt great.

IMO training is very important in staying on track. Even if i mess up my diet i'm still in the gym busting ass so if i over eat one day atleast i know i'll put on more muscle than fat (i'm currently dieting down a bit for summer).

I've been managing a great balance in my life for the past 8 months or so, strict diet 6 days/week with drinking on fri/sat night and maybe some wine on sunday, occasionally a thursday night booze night. I've been making great gains and look forward to that sunday cheat day to keep me sane. I'm not getting ready for any contests and i'm in college so i can't deprive myself completely of the partying and whatnot.

I went to a bbq yesterday with tons of sangria and vodka, but i didn't indulge in any because it was tuesday. People tried abusing me until the fat jokes started flying, i ate shrimp, chicken, a hamburger (no bun, just cheese) and salad. Had a blast and still kept to a strict diet.

Basically it all comes down to not freaking out about the small stuff and knowing what days your most likely to go out to party and working that into your training/dieting plan. For example even if i drink on friday night, saturday is still a diet day so i'll hit the diner at the end of the night and get 4 whites, 1 whole egg with turkey and swiss omelette. Next day wake up and do the strict diet again but at night i'll mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, pancakes etc because that diner visit is usually around 4am so its technically sunday :D Also, when i drink on thursday/friday i'll get jack and diet or bacardi lemon and diet. You'd be surprised how many kcals you shave off having diet soda in your drink instead of the real thing.

Yeah especially with summer here now, fri-sun are hang out BBQ and party days. Doesn't mean I have to get hammered every weekend day, but socially having a few beers.

I agree training needs to be there, so if I do get carried away its not as bad.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Looking back here....I encourage everyone getting started in this look back at their old posts. You may well want to smack yourself......I think I've drank twice in the past month. Its about priority. I did however kick the shit out of some deep dish pizza last saturday, but it was the bulk of my carbs and fats for the day and was around 6pm so I felt alright with it.

I'm sure this post is going to sound really bad but I really think I've wasted my time on this board. No offense to you Uthinkso, but it makes me realize that nobody has understood a damn thing I've ever said on this board.

Pizza.........if you are having a cheat meal, call it a cheat meal......but PLEASE, PLEASE don't ever justify the cheat meal by saying its was your carbs and fat for the day. The carbs and fat in pizza is not even remotely close to any sort of healthy carb or healthy fat.

So..please, just call it a cheat meal if it's a cheat meal.

deep breaths....it will be ok. your time isn't wasted, though there are probably more constructive uses of it I'm sure. Perhaps pen a diet book???

Hasn't been all wasted, can't tell you how much I've learned from you (and others). The way I usually do cheats is I don't do a set cheat meal, I sort of do cheat calories. Usually a meal's worth or so of calories set aside a week for cheating - if I want to have it all at a meal, awesome, or if I want to spread it throughout the week with a couple of cookies or something, that's fine too.

Most weeks my "cheats" have ended up being some extra apples or nuts at meals. Sort of anti-climatic

The only recent time I have broken that rule was when I moved into my new house two weekends ago - I had quite literally no food (more specifically, protein) around to eat, so I ended up getting steamed chicken, vegetables, and rice from the chinese place twice in 2 days.

I do actually need to re-do my diet again though - it's been a pretty long time since I have, and I'm sure my metabolism is probably very different after going to the gym for months.

I used to do this, but now I eat to grow

 Cheating isn't a big deal to me - I honestly think a good apple tastes better than most baked goods (except lemon meringue pie or apple pie, nothing tops those)

I just don't drink really because I don't like it - there's not all that many alcohols I actually like, and getting trashed for the sake of getting trashed doesn't really appeal to me.

That and I've noticed everytime I get psyched up about a cheat meal with like chinese food or quiznos or something, it's always so dissapointing - the food just isn't that good. The one thing I do still love is onion pizza with garlic and basil. Looks like I know what I'm doing this weekend now.

Sexy men Sexy men :hot:

I fully understand the cheating and I do it to on the occasion. I just don't like it when people try to justify a cheat because they didn't eat that much that day. If your going to cheat, cheat but be accountable.

Not wasting time at all Jodi. I don't post that much but I've benefited from your knowledge... 'thanks!'
As far as cheats I'm guilty sometimes too but I find it helps when making the decision to ask myself if the decision maker is gonna be the person thinking about cheating that day or the person who has put in all the time and effort to 'be good' up to that point.

I eat a cheat meal once a week or twice if I'm trying to put on a little weight. I only drink about once every three months or so. So... no, I don't really have that problem.

Self control.

Pizza is a cheat meal??? I'm just kidding. I had bbq chicken pizza for my cheat a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic.
