I'm curious, friend of mine who is training to be a personal trainer says 72 hours, but I was always told to just wait 1 day then go back to doing it (when first starting out).

This true? Or shall I go back and give him link to this thread proving he's wrong! :lick:

Depneds on the volume and intensity that you are using really.

well, I'm trying to build up alot of muscle..I started off light tho and can feel it all through my chest/arms a little over 24hours later. so I'm a little cautious if I should go in and workout some more.

what is your training split look like?
How long have you been lifting for?

You are attempting to work out twice in a 24 hour time period? When you get advanced and can listen to your body great, but for now, throw that idea out the window. Stick to what works.

according to a kinesiology textbook, 48 hours is the amount of recuperation time a muscle needs after a workout; this is also the optimum amount of time to wait in between workouts for a given muscle group (although some--like calves--can be worken daily).

However keep in mind that this is under the assumption that the muscles are NOT worked to failure.
