I had 0 for over a year, then I had 1 for a while. After number 2 the list grew exponentially.

None. I don't see the point on putting someone on ignore. If I don't want to read a thread they started, I just don't click on it, or just skip over a post they made without reading it.

I put someone on ignore one time but i found that my curiosity would overwhelm me when i would see the little thing that says "this post is ignored" or what not. Then i just took them off the ignore list so i could see what they were saying. Its kindda pointless to me, i just won't pay those people any mind instead of putting them on the list.

Valid points, but I noticed some posts send off tiny waves of agitation every time and 99% of them come from the same people. I see my ignore list as 'quality control' now. I don't watch certain bad tv channels or read bad papers either. Not a perfect comparison, but I hope you get the idea.
