I hear some people take like 50% of their daily protein from shakes alone. Is there a recommendation on how much protein comes from food and how much from shakes?

2 shakes a day is plenty. Rest should come from real food so you get other sources of protein.

I personally only take in about 15%-20% of my daily protein from powders...and even then I don't make shakes, I mix two scoops into amaranth, quinoa, spelt, kamut, steel-cut oats or cous cous and cook the mixture with a little wheat bran and some soy milk for my post workout meal....

Peace.

I stick with water, it keeps my carb count lower.

i must take almoast 50% of protein from my whey shakes

its so much more affordable to do that in england where food prices (especially meats like chicken, turkey and fish) are a total joke!

i'm a broke student so 1 day when i'm earning lots it will be all different, damm i can't wait till i have the money to finance a mega 7000 cals a day or something :D

mix whole food with whey is fine but never by istelf other then pre or post workout !!

As of now I'm taking 100 grams from shakes. That's two shakes, 50 from each.

Protein Intake is Protein Intake.
Whether you take 10 g Protein from Protein Shake or 500 g: It doesn't Matter as long as you're getting A mixture of Proteins at the right time!

I get about 110g per day from shakes... its the only way I can hit my 300g protein spot  I cant imagine my body enjoying eating that much meat, too hard to digest IMO.

You can have 100g of Protein from Whey and 100-200g from Milk-Egg Protein Powders if you dont wanna eat Meat-Chicken....
I personally order 50 Lbs of Whey Bag one each of WPC, WPI and Casein...I buy it pretty cheap wholesale and create my own recipies and from Powders alone, I get upto 200-250 g of Protein Intake.

Ah well, the rest I enjoy getting from eggs, chicken and turkey. Every now and then I have red meat, but by and large its poultry.

I wouldnt want my whole diet to rotate around powder and still view it as a supplement with the primary sources coming from solids.

Well Said. But I'm always on the go and always have couple of shaker bottles with 5-6 Packets of my own customized MRP~250 g of Protein. I have them every 3rd hour with Milk or Water. I'm 8-10 Hours on the go, that too, Non-Stop so there's not much I can do about getting Solid Meal every 4th hour.
Nonetheless, this is working quite good for me.
Besides this, I always have the time for a solid Massive Beakfast meal and Dinner.

I read a T-Mag article today, its the 'skinny mans diet' one...

they recommend a skinny fella trying to put weight on to get ALL his protein from whey, no shit!

they reckon skinny guys should eat whey and high GI carbs all day so they will feel hungry enough to eat more calories

the calculation they used was bodyweight (150lbs) x 1.5 = 225g of whey a day

i aim at 90-120g from whey each day now... 150g max

peace
