In my imagination.
I have read many conflicting articles about this. I know carbs are available sooner than fats and proteins.

Anybody have any good studies or research on this?

Simple carbohydrates are easier to digest. I'm assuming you're referring to digestion time here? In which case it depends completely on the actual food you are consuming. Are you looking for proper pre workout nutrition/timing? I can give some reccomendations.

Calories START being absorbed almost immediately.

Depends on what type of food is injested.

Yes, basically. I have been waiting 30 minutes after consuming oats and whey before hitting the gym. This seems to work nicely, but I am just wondering if I could go sooner.

Depending on your goal you could go sooner, but I wouldn't reccomend it. At this point, you'd risk puking up your pre workout meal :P

I personally wait about an hour, consume a pre workout drink, and workout thirty minutes later. Each session lasts 1-1.5 hours. This way I can immediately replenish my glycogen stores pre workout and jump start recovered. Pre contest this works great - deplete glycogen during the workout so you can go straight to burning fat with PWO cardio.

If size gain is your goal - try cosuming your meal 1hr pre workout, take in a pre workout drink, then possibly consume an intra workout product. BCAA's would work just fine, but if you're a hardgainer you could try a product containing carbohydrates such as SIZE ON MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.

Hope this helps!
