I want to gain mass and bulk up. Being that I know very little about lifting properly and how to design a workout routine, I want to get a personal trainer to start me out on the correct path.

I joined the local YMCA in my area, and I want to see about having one of thier personal trainers work with me. I'm guessing that most of the personal trainers that work there usually work with over weight clients, and do not have much experience with bodybuilding. I want to make sure the trainer that I get accually knows what they're talking about. What questions should I be asking potential trainers when I interview them?

What are their certifications? What is their educational background? Do they have experience working with clients in this capacity? Do they have personal experience in said area? What do they do for continuing education?

Are you considering competing in bodybuilding, or did you want to do some recreational bodybuilding?

I rather take a couple years to learn it all on my own liek i have and do it on my own. but a helping hand is always good.
one tip: if he is a fatso...... dont pick HIM as your trainer.
I see alot of these fat "couch looking" guys that talk the talk. i want some one that puts there moeny where their mouth is!

So after you ask the questions, make sure he is into the lifsyle also.

GOOD LUCK!

i would choose the cutest female with the cutest butt...and make sure they have a fun personality.

most personall trainers are not worth the paper there "certificates" were printed on..

shit hang around here ask ANYTHING you want to know this place has helped me no end... some great people on here who are more then happy to help out

no matter what your trainier may tell you its just you against the iron my friend and its a LONG and daunting road... MAN UP GET USED TO IT

I would pick a personal trainer that has expertise specifically in bodybuilding (if that is your goal)... the average personal trainer will not have the necessary experience (I agree with the above poster - stay on here, ask questions, and use the collective expertise of the serious guys on the board).

a good start is to buy a decent bodybuilding book and read it ...it will motivate you and will answer lots of questions and will help you chose a trainer and understand what he is telling you....do not google for answers just buy a decent book that includes training and nutrition and....and READ.
