I've been thinking of getting a good multivitamin like Animal Pack, but started wondering; vitamins and minerals are in everything I eat from real food to supplement shakes. I know that if you get too much of some then body just flushes the excess out, and in some cases too much of some can be harmful. So how necessary is it to take a multi? Does it depend on a persons body size/weight to how much is needed and absorbed?

I've posted about this before. In a nutshell, a multi is cheap insurance, making sure you're not missing anything. I got a bottle of 400 vitamins for 16 bucks at Walgreens. I wouldn't worry about getting a really good multi unless you're cutting and your food intake (thus your vitamin and mineral intake) is low.

I am really picky about my multi's . It seems like some of these companies just overload on some vitamins. I also don't like taking a ton of pills on top of everything else I take. I usually go with Gaspari Anavite because it has some added benefits or Axis Labs Endo shield. There is a new one that I tried out (sample) that really seemed to work well I believe it is called Envie by Nutrakey labs. This is a powder you mix with water and drink. It has real world doses and when you drink it you can feel like your body is recharged afterwards. Good Stuff. Think I am going to switch to that one next time. Vitamins are well worth using. Most people do not get everything they need to be optimal from food. Most lack variety in their meals.

I like NOWFOODS Adam. They suggest 3 caps/day but I take only 2

I say they are completely worthless. If you are deficient in some vitamin or mineral or nutrient then it's because your diet sucks and you should address that. Eat right and you should have sufficient if not approaching optimal levels of nutrients.

Agreed!! I have tried lots of brands of multi vits over the years. I never feel shit. I've even tried some high end liquid ones that are supposed to assimilate very quickly. They are $70 for 1 month supply ! I didn't pay that but still......felt nothing.

I have a hard time believing if the body was able to use it that I would feel nothing from it. Makes me think the body does nothing with them.

Fruits , veggies, and quality biological protein.

i used to take regular store bought vitamins but theyre packed full of chemicals and crap. Now i take a whole foods based vitamin. Thats what docs suggest.

This is ignorant, there are so many studies done on LARGE populations to show high percentages of American's are deficient in many key vitamins. I would rather take mine daily and even if it doesn't change the world, I know I heal faster, get sick less often, it helps my joints and I get a nice mental boost from the b vitamins. My choice is Controlled Labs Orange Triad, I like the joint and digestion complex and the vitamins are dosed generously. Now Adam is a cheaper option and I do like it.

Typical american diet is processed fast food. I doubt anyone who lifts would follow such a poor diet. Eat properly and it's not a concern. But please post these studies showing deficiencies as I'm interested in what is lacking from the typical american diet. And I can post dozens of studies that show taking a multi actually increases mortality rate. I doubt it's related to multi use but other habits the person engages in as they might use a multi for insurance against unhealthy behavior. I don't oppose dosing individual vitamins like maybe d3 if a blood test shows you are low but I feel a multi is worthless given a good diet. Deficiency and surplus of vitamins both seem to cause health issues so I see no need for 8000% the DV of whatever vitamin.

I agree here. I'm contest prepping so my calories are low, I'm working out twice a day and my body is shot. I quit taking my packs for a week or so an got sick. Cheap insurance for sure. It depends on what your doing as to the amount and quality, but I won't be skipping mine anymore. I use Allmax's vita pack. 1 pack a day vs. most others requiring 2 a day.

Its Vital, I used to think there we useless then my friend bought me the simple One A Day Mens Health Formula and it made me feel at least 25% better each and every day. Like I was missing something all along

hey man they cheap and easy to get.. ud be stupid not to take one.. even if you think your getting most of the vits and mins from food whats the harm in taking one to double check your getting them...

Me persoanlly i dont go for the big brand names i mean if you look at whats in most of them its uaully the same thing anyway!

you just pay excess for the brand logo on the tub!

same deal with protein i use the cheap shit cause im not paying the extra money for a brand name when its the same stuff in the tub!

I do think they have ones that are too strong, almost toxic I am really happy with the One Day Mens ...................... you feel normal but very good Also its easy on the stomach

if you eat fruits and vegetables then you don't need any multivitamins. excess in some vitamins will be flushed out like vitamin B, C but some vitamins can be toxic if taken in excess like E and A.....minerals also can help but not taken in excess.
so my suggestion is : if you eat fruits and veggies then take a mild dose of a multivitamin and minerals it won't hurt and will get you covered. If you don't eat fruits and veggies then either start eating them or take a moderate dose of multivitamins.
Choose your vitamin supplements to be natural with no artificial ingredients , protein shakes have enough artificial ingredients in them , you don't want anymore of them.

I'm looking at a bottle of CareOne Essential Formula Multiple Vitamins. No mega doses, just 100% of the daily requirement according to the label.

Might be worthless but the psychological boost is a plus for me.

That's prolly all anyone needs anyways.

Was it this one ??? Looks pretty good and not expensive either Little over a dollar a day ....Nutrakey Envie - Go Elite Physique

I take Nature's Way Alive (No Iron added) Its packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Its 26 bucks for a 2 month supply and I normally get a few bottles at a time so its cheaper than that. For less than 50 cents a day I figure why not. Now I know I'm not missing anything on days where I'm very busy and might have to eat a fast food meal or two. I do agree it would be better to get all nutrients from quality whole foods but on somedays with a fucked up work schedeule and a kid I have to eat on the go.

All supplements are optional imo...
