I did research on this many years ago. I was amazed at what I found and really learned a lot from it. The 4, 4, 9 figures where only data compiled through a discussion between 2 scientists that went sort of like... "Hey do these numbers sound good to you" "Yea, sounds great". All in all they recognized that fat was more concentrated then carbs and/or protein.
I can't remember the sources I pulled the information from (and I still follow the 4.4.9 formula) however, what I learned helped me to recognize not how much something was in numbers but rather how what I consumed and the quality of it made me feel and look. It helped me to understand that the quality of what I consumed was far greater to my overall appearance then the amount.
As I read in a post early today, regarding someone wanting to know if they should measure everything, I'd have to agree. As the poster stated its good to measure and get a feel for the amount youre consuming. But once you understand the caloric content measuring is not a means to the end.
