I've heard good things about PSMF and have the e-book but have yet to read it so i can't offer any opinions about that.
When i decided to try and lean out a little bit i started with just cleaning up my diet, then i got into carb cycling and cardio (steady state). I'm in full blown lean out mode right now, lowered all RI's in my training, cardio 2x/week (mix of HIIT+steady state), and more lower carb days during the week. Those little tweaks have done wonders for my BF, i am visibly at the lowest BF i've been at since 17 years old, but i'm 30lbs bigger. As well, the end of my current cycle of training will see me switching to 3 full body w/o's consisting of supersets of antagonistic muscles with low RI's and more cardio. I will plan on doing this for another 4 weeks before i go back to more of a maintenance diet/training routine for the summer.
Not to go off on a tangent or anything, i was just trying to illustrate the point that crash dieting does not work. It wastes muscle and is terrible for you. You'd be surprised what some tweaks in your diet/training will do to you.
