Brother, to be honest..... If it was me there would be NO problem with leaving and getting back home, closer to my family and Fiancee(sp) The way I look at it is simple: I can ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS get another job. BUT, I can't get another family. You sound like you have an inteligent head on your shoulders. I'm sure you know deep down you will be just fine WHEN you make the move!!! Im a regular Level 1 reserve. I do all regular duties of any full-time patrol officer, w/o the pay. I am next on the hiring list to be on full-time. This city is just so poor and small (theres a total of 6 officers in the whole city, including chief), they just suck up all the money for other stuff.

The Chief is an at will employer. He is fighting for me and the dept. He came here to try and change the place... being a former LT. in a big dept down south. Its all budget issues.

I had a couple of small things in my background that were kinda slowin up the process for some agencies, so I just took the first thing I got. Im just so miserable up here trying to get experience, because once you get your foot in the door, transefering is much easier.

They do send me to plenty of training classes though... Drug Rec, EPAS, Dom Violence, just to name a few in only 5 months...

Get a job with federal agency now, I work with Motorola and all of our customers are either City, State of Federal.
Right now homeland security is hiring, again you can try Customs, DEA, State Dept (bad thing about them is overseas traveling is manditory) Secret Service (hard to get into)
Decent benefits with them.

....I have no money, a small apt payment, with other bills, and NO income. From talking to my immediate supervisor, leaving now may leave a bad taste in the mouth of the Police Chief. (I gave them a verbal committment of one year, and apparently they have big plans for me). He feels if i leave, that it may look bad for future referece. (Mind you I work in a VERY small dept)

I don't think this is about YOU. It's about working for NO INCOME.

You say you have to leave because of the department not having any funds, you are not getting paid, the economy is so bad, that you couldn't get a job at McDonald's.

Perfect opportunity for you to leave (no one will know about the other reasons).

You should be commended. You served and protected -- for free.

In California, after you graduate from the academy, you get what is called an Academy Certificate which is good for 3 years. If 3 years expires and you are not hired, then you have to re-do everything. As of being hired, my Ac. Certificate is "frozen", which means if I leave, I start all over, 3 years eligibilty again... which is a good thing.

In NC, your certification is only good for 1 year. Three years is a long time to not work in law enforcement.
