I just put a full length dvd movie .vob > .mp4 (albeit compressed) on to my sandisk sansa 4 gig mp3 player. It only takes up about 400 megs.

Thats pretty cool, but I still wouldn't put down the money for that Ipod.

That's not an Ipod. I hate Ipods.

I got it for 110, and I believe it retails for 140ish.

Sansa pwn's Nano.

Oh, I didn't notice at first. In that case, I might consider buying one. BTW, what did you use to convert to mp4?

Clonemobile dvd. But first you need to decrypt it and resize it. After decrypting it, dvdshrink will resize it to fit on a standard 4.7 gig disk. Then y ou can use clonemobiledvd set to compressed .mp4 to convert it. Then you have to convert it once more using the sansa software, and finally edit a few config files.

I don't see why you would want to put a movie on a Ipod or other mpeg4 handheld device. I can't see when you'd watch it. At work? Good if you could get away with it, but I think most would find it hard. The only times that I can think of that would be good would be for travelling or on vacation. And on a tiny screen? hardly worth it. Sure, you could USB or IEE1394 etc. it out onto a computer, but whats the point?

But then again i'm not '1337-G33K'. For portable entertainment, I'll stick to carrying my 14" CRT and VCR around with me for now.

lawl, I was gonna say nice avy.

or just download handheld-ready movies.

converting and compressing takes too much time.

btw, Ipod Video owns all. Especially when you pay $175 canadian.

good point!!!

I got an ipod video, and havn't used the video since the first week I got it.

I'm buying this DoPod 838 pro, AKA the Cingular 8525 if the folks over at Cingular are kind enough not to strip out the GPS functionality of it. Any of you "1337-G33K" types wanna tell me why I don't wanna buy this instead of an Ipod?

Looks really neat. I'm not '1337 - G33K', but wonder if you would really need all the features it has, especially at that price. Do you really need it, or could you get by on a cheaper phone with mp3 etc......? Just my 2 cents...

I travel for various reasons and need the features. GPS is a must, and the WiFi of course. I wear a size 15 ring so using a stylus is a pain in the ass ... seriously ... makes the keyboard a good thing. The rest of the features are pretty much all standard in any PDA phone now ... the 2mp camera, voice recorder, mp3/4 player, :blah: :blah: :blah: are in most everything out there.

It's down to either the DoPod or this Eten GloFish.

Uh, no. Ensuring that the video play bug free you need to do it yourself.

Ipod's are t3h gheyz0r and horribly overpriced.

I thought the same thing until i got stuck in an airport for 4 hours and watched Rocky Balboa on my Zen. I rarely watch movies on it, but I always have something on it for a jam.

Did you get it? Pretty awesome, eh?

Lawl, I pwn you both... I have the 8gb Sansa, and the 30gb Creative Vision: M... And a 4gb 1st gen Nano.

Hey Dyl, have you tried Rockbox out on your Sansa yet? I tried it but it's not completed yet so I reverted back to the original firmware... It can't play audio, video or pictures as of yet, but the firmware's awesome and when it's finished it will support sooo many more audio and video types than the Sansa firmware... Also, it supports folder browsing for music/videos etc... I miss folder browsing on most modern mp3 players.

Ipod's are t3h gheyz0r and horribly overpriced.

Not to mention the Creative Vision: M's screen quality/video playback is tons better than the iPod video's.

Why would you want 3 larger players? I have the Vision: M, and am thinking about a Shuffle because the Vision is too big to do plyos with, but the Nano would be overkill.

I can't believe how much better the Vision's screen is compared to the Ipod, it is like night and day. Not to mention the 2x battery life in video playback and not needing to convert Divx files.

Oh, and the best part of the Vision:M...When I go to East Bumfuck Vermont and my cheap ass parents have a 56k modem...Always have some porn for whacking material.

Noice.

Lawl my whole plan was to get the leetest mp3 player for around 100 dollars. If I throw in a 2 gig micro sd card I'm up to 6 gigs.

I have not tried rockbox, but I guess I will when it's finished.

Lawl it sounds like you have 1000 dollars worth of mp3 players.

I have 3 because I got my Nano about 1.75 years ago when it first came out and I just had a small 256mb player... I wanted a 4gb solid state player for the gym...

The Sansa I got because it has tons of features the Nano does not:
user replacable/removable battery with better battery life than the nano
FM Radio/Recorder
Voice Recorder
MicroSD card slot to expand up to 2gb more
8gb version (which the Nano has now as well, but didn't when I got mine)
better price
better screen & video playback

Creative Vision: M I got because I found it for $200 retail, I wanted a player with enough storage it would be hard to fill completely, and one that had a great screen for movie and video playback.

I'm using the Nano in the gym and will until the battery dies, which I have noticed the battery life's gotten significantly worse since I bought it. When it dies I'll just use the Sansa. I refuse to use a hard-drive based player for active/gym use, not to mention their size makes them more annoying in the gym.
