I'm new to all this diet and exercise business, so you'll have to break it down simple for me.

I'll tell you a little about myself and my goal and maybe you'll be able to point me in the right direction. I'm closer to 40 than 35 and although active I don't really exercise however, that's about to change. I'm not overweight 6', 185lbs.

I love to hunt and hunt a lot and often. Also, I live in Ky but have booked an elk hunt in Colorado.

My questions is which foods will help me during my hunts. I've never really been clear on what foods are needed to help us during our hunts and/or in preparation for our hunts. I'm not just talking about staying away from fatty, fried foods, etc..

Good Carbs, Bad Carbs, complex sugars, simple sugars, yada yada yada. I want to know what foods are good for hunting.

Hunting scenarios that are of interest to me in regards to food to help me succeed

1.) Tree stand hunting (hours of sitting in the stand in the cold)

2.) An upcoming Elk hunt that I have booked. (training and then on the hunt lots of hiking at high altitudes.)

I am interested in what types of foods will give me the most energy and my body can burn to help me in these situations, as well as what type of foods to avoid.

I mean I'm really new to all this so it can't be explained to simple for me.

Thanks in advance

Brad

I would stick with a oatmeal and eggs at breakfast and on the hunt unsalted nuts and dried fruits, and a protein source. I know alot of people will disagree but they calorie dense and easy to eat while hunting. I would stay away from dairy and any fried foods during your trip

Thanks for the link and advice so far.

I'll welcome more.
