Just a quick question: I was working out the other day and i started with biceps. I did preacher curls, standing barbell curls and when i was doing standing dumbbell curls I got a serious muscle pain? right in the middle of my back. All I could do was drop the weights. For a minute I couldn't breath. I hobbled to the sauna and then showered and left. I missed my last two workouts due to this. I feel fine now and will resume working out tomorrow. Is this due to a lack of warm up? I always do a couple of light sets to warm the muscle up. Being that this was the back...should I do some kind of back warm up?

you probably torqued your back in a weird way when doing the dumbell curls. I would do llight warm up sets and really focus on the form when doing uni-lateral exercises.

Be sure to tighten your abs and back when you start the motion. Pulling to one side can cause problems if your not ready. Make the lift deliberate and slow. If you start to feel something in the same area, stop. You may want to start doing dumbells while seated rather than standing. I also wear a belt to support my lower back.
