The packets you pour in a bowl, mix with water, and microwave.

High/low GI carb? Good pre-workout?

I'd heard before they were perfectly fine, but then I read that their GI was actually high, so I'd figure I'd ask you guys...

Those are processed to cook faster (instant). It is better to use old fashion oatmeal or rolled oats. The less processed the better. And Low/Hi GI carbs are less of an issue if eaten as part of a meal (protien, fat, and carbs).

yeah I know the old fashioned/steel cut type of oats are better for BB purposes, but I'm a college kid in a dorm with no access to a kitchen except for my microwave, so I gotta make due. I'll just stick to the instant ones until I move out

I cook the non-instant ones in my microwave just about every day.

The steel cuts can't be cooked that way, but the regular non-instant Quaker oats can be. Just takes longer.

really?

i've tried before, didn't work out well.

how much oats/water/salt?

I use Quaker Oats the quick kind comes in a 2kg size bag microwave directions are on the outside of the package but it is two to one ratio example 1/3 cup oatmeal 2/3 cup water i don't add any salt but I do add a small sprinkle of cinammon cook for about one minute stir this is when using 1/3 cup oatmeal

oats and skim milk cold, like it best that way
