Irony: That we now need to go to speciality shops and pay double the price for food that was once considered peasant food. eg Grains other than rolled oats and white rice.

Same as in the States! :thumbdwn: Peasant food prices have doubled here also...amazing! While we speak...prices r going up...(gas prices & drought R driving the market?) You could once pick up a bag of (dried) Rice AND beans 4 cheap! Not anymore! A family w/kids on a budget would have it tough! ....can't even buy a bag of dried Rice N Beans at a deal anymore?

Note: The stores use to give away Ham & Beef "Bones" (for pennies!) for soups??? Well, the price of pennies (for Bones!) went up 200% or more... Unbelievable! The Grocery Stores now charge for a Bag of bones? ....now that's bad!

I know what you mean... Makes me :pissed:

Do you have a Harris Farms near you?? Because you can get legumes/grains and nuts pretty cheap there... They have bulk bins (usually on the floor under the fruit counters) of things such as beans, chick-pea's, legume mixes, pearl barley etc and you just use big scoops to pour them into bags... I think it is about $2 a kg for beans and about the same for barley.... Which is not too bad...

Bulk Bin - Buy in Bulk. LOVE IT!!!

Let's face it. In the 21st Century....landfills r filling up fast. Buying in Bulk "does away with" buying all the plastics and Glass u buy w/your product? The States has yet to catch onto this ingenious idea? Probably cuz it would put many people out of work. Cheaper product ~ Save Landfill space ~Buy in Bulk ~ sounds Good to me! :thumb:
