But I'm feelin' good.

Gonna be 23 in a little over a week, and I've been smoking since I was 16, kinda hard since I was 18.

I've never LIKED the fact that I was a dirty smoke billowing, money wasting stink pile. But it IS an addiction. I've decided I've wasted enough money and time and health on them, and it's time to make right.

I did quit once or twice before, but only once seriously. This time I'm ready and committed, vs feeling pressured, and I think that's the difference.

I do have some nicorette gum ... not sure that it helps at all, but I'm keeping it around 'cause I'd rather not have any withdrawals.

I also downloaded this program from SilkQuit.org:

One day, 14 hours, 0 minutes and 42 seconds. 39 cigarettes not smoked, saving $6.93. Life saved: 3 hours, 15 minutes.

Good for you, keep up the good work. Its difficult, I know I use to smoke too and you can do it! :thumb:

It's a long hard road to travel, but with the right mind set you can do anything you want! I "quit" 3 years ago and would sneak one here and there (mostly when I drank) and just out of the blue, I said enough. Haven't had one or wanted one for 9 months!

Way to go, get through the first day it's the worse:thumb:

Two days, 11 hours, 40 minutes and 35 seconds. 49 cigarettes not smoked, saving $8.95. Life saved: 4 hours, 5 minutes.

w00t!

Heak, I even went and played pool last night, and didn't smoke.

Amazingly, things smell different already. I have a pretty keen sense of smell, but apparently I was immune to my own stench. Cigs smell different, and my room REAKS!!! I bought some orange spray stuff to drown it out ...

Hell, I even love smelling like soap at the end of the day :)

Edit:

Thanks for the kind words!!!

The biggest lie you will EVER hear will come from your own mind. You'll hear that little voice in the back of your head saying over and over and over, "Come on, what's the problem? One won't hurt." Do NOT believe the lie!!! You did it. You quit. Freakin' GREAT, now stay that way. One WILL hurt. It'll not only hurt your body, it'll hurt your mind because you'll start doubting your ability to kick the habit. Don't believe the lie! DAMN good choice to quit, I did it over 10 years ago and can't even say if I'd still be alive if I hadn't. Keep your spirits up and you'll do fine. Every time you get hit with a nicotine craving don't think of how good a smoke would be, think of how sick you'd get if you sucked one down all at once. That'll damn sure make that craving go away. You really want help? Get an old mayo jar and fill it with butts and ashes then top it off with water and put the lid on tight. Every time you get a craving pop the top off that jar and take a big ole' wiff. POOF, no more craving. :thumb:

Good for you. Don't give up.. it's not worth it.

I started with I was 11 (Talk about needing attention) quit at 21, started on again off again at 27 and continued that way for another 7+ years. Finally, I said I had to stop it before it stopped me.

One thing that healped me is take a straw, cut it in the length of a smoke and just hold it. You can bring it to your mouth, suck on it.. whatever... I found, especially when I drove, that it was a tremendous help! Just going through the motions but not the act.

Keep it up!!

That's a sweet idea sunni! Never heard that one, but sounds good.

I'm not against smokers, and actually dont even mind the smell. Strange but true. Just glad I don't do it.

ALBOB - That's what has happened in the past. I've felt pressure to quit, or thought, I need one so bad right now (stress) ...

Right now, I'm ready. You have to be ready, and not be influenced. Also, I'm under a LOT of stress with work, and some encounters with the ex, so if I can make it through this time of crisis without a smoke, I can do anything!!!

Sosunni - That's a good idea ... I've been chewing on pens :)

Three days, 14 hours, 20 minutes and 56 seconds. 71 cigarettes not smoked, saving $12.95. Life saved: 5 hours, 55 minutes.

I absolutely guarantee that if you have a smoke your stress will INCREASE. Not only will the external stresses still be there but you'll have to deal with the internal stess of failure. DO NOT FAIL!!! You're better than cigarettes. :thumb:

Way back when I quit I went through the Nicotine Patch program and in the weekly classes they said nicotine cravings last aproximately 20 seconds. (Sure seemed longer to me. :( ) Anyway, they said if you can find something to take your mind off the craving for that much time you'll be able to control the urges. Usually getting up and walking to the drinking fountain is all it takes. Your boss might ask a question or two but usually he/she will understand once they find out why you're doing it.

But how many 20sec nicotine urges might one have to go through in a day??? What if you have the urge every 1/2hr?

I think you should just have lots and lots of sex.

DAMN, where were you when I was trying to quit? Oh wait, I think I'm having a nicotine fit right now. HEEEEEEELP.

Four days, 10 hours, 42 minutes and 16 seconds. 88 cigarettes not smoked, saving $16.00. Life saved: 7 hours, 20 minutes.

CLP ... I haven't had many urges since day 2. I'm also on my 2nd day with no special gum.

I haven't had a craving for many sweets, 'cause I'm not that into sweets, but I got some grapes, just in case :)

I have also been hacking up some REALLY nice specimens a couple times a day.

GOOD!!!

One week, four days, 12 hours, 31 minutes and 52 seconds. 230 cigarettes not smoked, saving $41.48. Life saved: 19 hours, 10 minutes.

----------------------

I've been out to one bar, and played pool twice ... no real problems to speak of. And NO cheating!!!

This weekend, I'm plannin' to be my crazy self ... It'll be the first true test, and I'm sure I'll be AOK.

I had a few cravings yesterday ... but, they were just mental, and I supressed them with ease!

:)

DAMN good. :thumb:

Remember though, that little lie will still sneak up when you least expect it and say, "Go ahead, one won't hurt." It's a lie!!! :finger:

I know, he's already told me that cloves or black and milds would be ok, since I wasn't addicted to those.

I put a sock in his mouth, and he's trying to chew through it.

Youre doing good. Good luck.

I quit about 5 yrs ago, after smoking for 10 yrs. The first couple of weeks was really hard but after that, it got easier each day.

Its a mind game. If you've got any kind of discipline you'll make it.

Hang in there!

It gets easier as time passes.

I smoked for 19 years and quit 5 years ago. Have not had one since nor do I want one.

Once your nose is able to smell just how bad smokers really do stink, you'll be glad you quit.

I found lemon drops helped me through the tough times!!!

Goog luck!

Good Luck Blieb! I quit over 10 years ago after smoking for nearly 10 years. It was tough, but I'm a better person for kicking the habit. It set a precedent of strength and positive emotions for myself. I knew if I could kick the habit, I could pretty much do anything else.

Albob gave you some good advice about the mind games you will play with yourself. Like he said, be strong and don't listen to that little voice (No I don't mean you Albob, I said little voice not little penis).

You are also correct that you can only do it for yourself and because YOU want to. Do yourself a favour and stay the course, it's one of the best gifts you will ever give yourself.

On a side note; I can't believe how disgusting smokers smell! :barf: I just want to go up to them and say "You stink like shit! You're breath stinks, your clothes stink, even your skin stinks! It's disgusting!"

mmafiter, you stink like shit! You're breath stinks, your clothes stink, even your skin stinks! It's disgusting! You must have been to McDonald's recently. :barf:

One month, one day, 10 hours, 4 minutes and 20 seconds. 648 cigarettes not smoked, saving $116.71. Life saved: 2 days, 6 hours, 0 minutes.

w00t!!! I barely even bust out the program anymore, to see ... well ... I mostly open it to see how many bones I've saved :)

Amazing that I have avoided 600+ smokes. That's ... 32+ packs!
