I doubt this goes in this thread, but I have no idea where to put it. Last night, I was studying (yes, on a Sat night!) and all of a sudden I got this sharp shooting pain in my lower left lats, which radiated to the front of my left shoulder, down the left arm. It started around 9pm and still hasn't gone away and it's 7:35 on Sunday morning. I have NO idea what this pain is or how it's caused. I took some anti-inflammatories last night before I went to bed but I'm still in agony and I don't have medical insurance and have no idea what to do. Here's what I did yesterday:

Elliptical: 45 minutes
Rower: 3 minutes (I also thing I'm struggling with carpal tunel and my hands hurt so I stopped shortly after starting)
Massage: 70 minutes. He focused on my neck, but I've never felt such pain after a massage so I don't know if it's attributed to that. My massages haven't changed much since going to him (5 sessions ago) so I don't think it's because of this.

If anyone has ever had this experience or has any advice to give, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Tracie

Does it feel muscular or???????

Pain around the lower back and shoulder areas is often a syptom of kidney stones......at your age highly unlikely though.

No blood in urine recently? That could also point to KS.

Sorry....maybe someone else has some ideas.

Thanks, Kuso. No blood in urine. It doesn't feel like muscular pain--at least I don't think so. It still hurts as bad as it did last night though :(

I would suggest you go see a doctor if it continues one more day. What ever it is. better off getting good care then risking your health.

studying? where you sitting in a chair oddly or for a long time, could just be a cramp or knot in the muscle

it might be pinched nerve or u can be overtraining i get pains like that when i begin to overtrain

Thanks guys. I'm beginning to think that it's a pinched nerve also. However, I haven't lifted in over 2 weeks because of midterms, etc. I just haven't had the time. My friend mentioned that I was slouching today, but it really hurt to stand up straight, because everytime I pulled my shoulders back to do so, the pain started again. It's just really annoying me. I was hoping someone else had had this problem before so that I can get an idea as to what I should do. If it's a pinched nerve, should I heat it? Thanks everyone!

Keep the antiinflamitories around when the pain gets bad and heat it, i suspect it justs a muscle knot, if the pain keeps up or gets worse go see a Doc. insurance or not.

I've been paying for physical therapy for my knee out of my pocket and I see her this week so I'm going to talk to her then. I hope she'll be able to give me something because this OTC naproxen isn't working and I'm out of vicodin :( I wonder if PTs can prescribe medicine...

Vicodin is pretty strong isn't it?? I usually just pop a few ibuprofen, thats what I was reffering to.....I don't think PT's can prescirbe medicine. :)

Yeah, I had to take a vicodin the other night when I first experienced the pain. I've been taking OTC naproxen ever since. I would only take vicodin if the pain was unbearable and I didn't have anything else to do that day--unfortunately, the pain is getting worse and I'm getting busier, so even if I had vicodin I couldn't take it because it knocks me out. I'll let you know what my PT says...
