Cols,OH. It sucks.
I'm planning to buy a jump-rope for short/intense weekend cardio sessions in my heated garage (versus running on Ohio's frozen streets!) but there are several types; some have beads, some are weighted, some are leather, some are speed ropes.

I don't know anything about jump-ropes. Any advice?

Go to sports authority and buy a $10 rope. Leather ropes are supposed to last longer, until they get wet. Speed rope... not necessary unless you are very proficient at jumping rope

but if ya want some more info on jumping rope, check RossTraining - Bridging The Gap Between Ordinary and Extraordinary

He has some great info on that site.

beads= Shit do not get they break very ezily plus they arent that fast
weighted=decent, but its proven in many studies that you will get a better workout from going fast then with weight also you could just hold rolls of coins in your hand while jumping rope and its the same thin
leather=good very durable and fast
speed ropes=very very fast my favorite
get a leather as a begginer and as you get better get a speed

I would not use a beaded rope if you paid me. Leather is good and speed ropes are OK too. I agree with the beginner starting with leather. You should also consider a jump rope with grips as your hands will get sweaty. You don't want something that will slip out of your hands before you're done.

The very best post I have seen from you, and your advice is on spot. I also prefer speed ropes. But then again, I'm not a beginner anymore.
