I just received a letter from Mike and he said he's OK and he asked me to write down all the responses to this thread and then airmail it back to him.
Next time you write to Danny, tell him to pull out the documentation for his router, and read how to do a factory reset. Usually it can be done by pressing and holding down a small button on the back of the router for 20 seconds. You will usually need a pen or pencil to press the button down.
Do you ever NOT HAVE problems with your computer??
The wrt54g pre v5 is not the same as post v4. You wind up bricking your router if you're not cautious.
I have a v6 wrt54g and haven't yet modded just because I don't have another one handy to replace it with.

I can get my internet to work, all I have to do is disconnect my router.. and just connect my cable modem...
Have any building projects? You've got one more brick for the job ...I am mike.... lol, I read about the factory reset, and did it like 10 times (hold the restet button for 30sec, than unplug while still holding etc.) and when flashing the router I followed a guide, and flashed the right version..
Sorry, it's in the mail. You should receive your responses in 3 to 4 days.I can get my internet to work, all I have to do is disconnect my router.. and just connect my cable modem...

Check your wiring.
Did you mess with the settings?

Look on the back of your 850. Does it have a ver number on it somewhere? Normally rt by the serial ...
Mike is right. He can connect to the router, and the router can connect to the internet, but his router now has a corrupted OS. You have to go back to factory default to get it going again. I have heard crazy stories of routers being permanently bricked by a bad OS flash.
Slow your roll there cowboy. He's got a ver2. You wouldn't wanna see him brick it with a bad OS flash would ya? Like he already has prolly?
how do I get back to factory default? just by holding reset button for 30 seconds while plugged in?
I just flashed a wr850 ver 2 to the DD-WRT v23 final (12/25/05) and the following process worked beautifully:
»wrt-wiki.bsr-clan.de/index.php?t···a_WR850G
Quick summary:
Reset to factory defaults
Flash to Motorola 6.14
Flash to dd-wrt.v23_mini_moto.bin
Reset to factory defaults
*optional step
Flash the generic VOIP, VPN or Standard dd-wrt.v23 firmware.
I'm using mine in front of a Vonage router so went with the VOIP image after the mini-Moto image for QoS and SIP options. The page above has links to all of the files you will need.
"Even though DD-WRT v23 SP1 and later knows about the hardware it is being installed on, you risk bricking the router when restoring defaults!"
IF you get into settings again ... and IF you didn't do the firmware upgrade ... download and install this firmware. Looks like the quarterback is toast though Mike.wow all of a sudden I can't get access to my router settings![]()
