I should've introduced myself here first.

I'm from NYC. 30 years old now (actually 29.5, but feel over 30). And over weight. I just joined a weight training class recently to get myself into better shape. I'm 5'6" but 185lbs.

Found this forum from google and the forsale forum popped up first. Because I was looking for a site that sells or reviews strength training systems. Just started browsing the rest of the forums, and this is a nice sized community. Looking forward to learn some good information from your threads. Since I'm a beginner, I won't really have much to contribute.

But I am in the market to buy something to workout on at home. I can use my basement , and it'll fit a large system, but I'd prefer the system to be as compact as possible. If anyone has any recommendations, that would be great. I've read the product information on some websites, ie lifesystems but don't want to actually purchase anything without personal reviews or recommendations from others.

Stay simple. Free weights with a bench and squat rack is all you really need and you can get a good set up for around $300-400.

Avoid things like the Bowflex or anything that doesn't use free weights. They tend to be much more expensive and not as good.
