lol, I heard of someone pinning this for fat-loss.

curious, anyone had any experience?

From a vet site:

L-Carnitine injection enhances improves performance, reduces muscle fatigue and improves recovery after hard work. It delays muscle fatigue by reducing lactic acid formation, and improves performance and endurance.

What is L-Carnitine ?
L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring nutrient found in animals and plants. Horses gain L-Carnitine through their diet or through the synthesis of amino acids. However, horses will not usually be able to replace the extensive losses of L-Carnitine which occur in heavy or fast work.

What does L-Carnitine Do?
L-Carnitine plays an essential role in energy metabolism. It carries long chain fatty acids into mitochondria (the cell furnace) where they are converted into energy for muscle contraction.

When does my horse need L-Carnitine?

L-Carnitine requirements in the horse's body will increase when:

  • Your horse is in work
  • If your horse is less than 3 years old (young horses and foals have lower levels than adults)
  • If your horse is under stress ie pregnant, lactating, surgery, infections etc
  • If your horse is on a high fat diet
  • If you have a stallion during the breeding season.
How can L-Carnitine help my racehorse?

In endurance exercise most of the energy is derived from fat and training increases the ability of equine muscle to use fatty acids. L-Carnitine increases the ability of skeletal muscles to utilize fatty acids resulting in increased energy supplies. The muscle levels of L-Carnitine determine the exercise capacity of the muscles. By using fats as energy for muscle contractions, the body is sparing glycogen and delaying the accumulation of lactic acid.

L-Carnitine enhances energy supply during exercise and is particularly useful for stayers.

In intense sprint work, L-Carnitine acts to buffer the acetyl CoA. CoA ration within muscle resulting in increased resistance to fatigue and improved performance. It acts as a physiological buffer by inhibiting the build up of lactic acid and acyl-CoA during exercise. It also helps to give extra energy during warm-up, allows rapid recovery after hard work and prevents exhaustion.
Presentation:
L-Carnitine is available in:
  • 30ml oral multidose paste syringe
  • 250ml paste pot
  • 100ml sterile injection
Directions for Use:
L-Carnitine Injection: Give 3ml per 100kg bodyweight (15mL per average horse) by intramuscular injection two to three times weekly. Give the final dose 4 - 6 hours before hard or fast work.

Of course gears, but I got this info from a bloke who used to run triathlons and iron man comps

hmm . . you know it all happened since his trip to kansas
