Hey guys,

Basically I'm self diagnosing myself as Beeing lactose intolerant.

I will book appointment with doc on Friday to get tests done but basically started going the gym 3 years ago now no intension of becoming a bodybuilder just was tired of Beeing so skinny and weak.

I loved and still do love training but I was so skinny when i started I went out bought some protein powder and just eat everything in sight all I knew when I first hit the gym was PROTEIN had no real knowledge of proper nutrition.

Anyway from day 1 untill yesterday I've used the same cheap as I can get protein powder simply due to not having the money to buy all the fancy labels stuff, protein is protein in my eyes all your paying for is a fancy labels ( just my opinion ).

actually I once used reflex banna flavour and it was very nice and I tried the one in the red tub gnc? Any remember the brand it's a cookies n cream flavour tasted too sweet and thick and sickly for my taste buds, popular one any way I think big Ronnie was sponsored but them,

anyway more to the point I was constantly farting all the time even back then, it was funny for a while... But now it's actually getting on my nerves! Lol

lying in bed with the misses and letting of 10 huge farts that smell like egg kinda puts a dampner on the mood lol (no matter how good of shape you are in) and holding them in just causes stomach pain and bloat and is even more uncomfortable!

Anyway i decided to get a few training lessons in with a ex pro at my new gym purely because I mainly train alone and neer really know what my forms like on the bog lifts and any lift for that matter.

Iv had 2 days training of him so far but on the second day my stomach was horrible I said hang on a minute mate I need to go fart in the corner so I don't kill every one else I'm the gym haha but he reassured me don't worry I've been on gyms for the last 20 plus years I'm used to it.! He said it will
Eventually go away in time then said I could be lactose intolerant I dismissed it and just laughed as I farted away..I wasn't getting the lesson of him for a intense workout more for using correct form ect.

Any way is any of you guys out there lactose intolerant I hear ON gold whey standard is great and actually contains lactase and is used by alot of bb's who are lactose intolerant?

Any others you could reccomend?

Once I've got a protein powder I can use that would be a massive help and I can also get lactose free milk from my supermarket so guess that will be on next weeks shopping list.

And it's a case of watching what I eat my staple is chicken or steak or extra lean beef so I'm ok in that department :)

I eat cottage cheese ever night and I'm guessing with that Beeing a dairy product it's not going to do me any favours

Pipe up lactose sufferers let me know how you worked around this minor problem..

Oh if the doc puts me in for tests and I'm NOT actose intolerant I have something wrong with my Bowles or something lol but today I have made a conscious note not to touch normal milk, no whey. No cottage cheese so far I've had oats and eggs and some fruit I feel good not farted once haha about to go butchers soon and grab some meat! But so far no dairy so good so it's already telling me I'm lactose intolerant!

I found that eating any dairy has an accumulative effect. The lactose gradually builds up in your system and all hell breaks loose. Stop eating cottage cheese. Even fat free cottage cheese has lactose in it. Dymatize Nutrition ISO100 is lactose free and is a fantastic protein. ON Gold Standard Whey may not be 100% lactose free but it's got less than others. MuscleMeds Carnivor is lactose free and inexpensive because it's from beef protein isolate. Milk contains lactose. Whey, Caisen proteins are made from milk. Unless the manufacturer states it on the product it's not lactose free. Proteins from soy, beef and eggs are safe in that regard. I now use low fat vanilla soy milk for cereal and i'll throw some in my shaker along with water for a thicker version. I've heard good things about coconut milk too, which i'm going to look into.

Dam i like cottage cheese aswell well ive found a certain brand that is delcious looks like il have to find some alternative! maybe a lactose free casein hmmm? and yeah ive heard goats milk is lactose free aswell lol but sounds nasty i can get normal milk lactose free from my local supermarket im just on my way to go get some...

Does that mean what ever your body can't digest through ur lactose intolerance that the protein in the bit that can't be absorbed by the body is wasted?

E.g.. 2 scoop of whey with skimmed milk lets say has 50g of protein for example.. But if your lactose intolerant then you might only be absorbing 25-30g? Due to the fact your body can't digest all of the dairy what ever it may be..

Bump!

By not absorbing all the lactose am I also not absorbing all the protein and calories? I seem to sh*t more then anyone I know lol maybe why I have a hard time gaining weight! We will see booking doctors today just wondering if any one knows if I'm absorbing all the protein in think I am?

Check into Probiotics. They help with digestion issues.

Oh and any Isolate protein has the lactose removed from it.

I don't think so. Your body doesn't produce enough of the enzyme to digest the milk suger found in whey proteins. I recently bought some ON gold standard whey, which is whey isolate, concentrate and hydrowhey. they say it's got lactase added for better utilization. To me that simply means if it's not 100% whey Isolate it's going to have milk sugar in it. I usually drink anywhere from 2-3 shakes a day on training days. Within a week I was using the crapper more and had an increase in gas. So it will depend on how severe your allergic to milk sugar. Read the label carefully before you buy. FYI Lactaid makes a fat free lactose free cottage cheese.

Man I am sorry to hear about you having troubles with everything I really hope that you will
find out great results from the doctor when you get there. Let me know if there is anything
I can do to help out your situation. I Think that you should try eating more protein also

If you have excess gas it usually means the protein is digesting slower and moving down into lower intestines and fermenting. Slow gastric emptying can also be caused by taking protein with fats or lots of fiber. Are you drinking your shakes with water on an empty stomach?
