I'm thinking about getting Lasik eye surgery. I'm nearsighted with a bit of astigmatism. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I have an appointment on Friday at the office to see if I'm a candidate or not.

My girlfriends gramps got it on both eyes, now he sees better than I do.

Hey Rock, do you have an FSA(Flexible Spending Account) at your workplace that you are eligable for?

Go to more than one specialist.

Side-effect don't affect most folks, but be fully aware of what they are, and that they are almost always permanent.

The Moran Eye Institute is one of the best eye places in the world. I a mnot sure if they do lasik though.. if they do, you could come visit me! :)

I would get it done if I needed it.

No I don't. But I've got an insurance check coming in from when my wife wrecked the car that will more than cover it. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time.

I'd love to come visit you! :D Luckily, as much as I hate living in the DC area, there is no shortage of any kind of specialist in anything you can imagine! I'm looking to get it done at the Lasik Vision Institute. www.lasikvisioninstitute.com

I had a guy i was training and he got it done and he was in the gym that arvo training without his glasses on :D
Best thing he's ever done he reckoned ;)

I've had it done, the greatest thing ever. I used to not be able to see the alarm clock in the morning, now I can read the bottom line on the eye charts. As for side effects I had some halo's for approx two weeks after the surgery, but they've long disappeared. I had it done approx 2 years ago. If you have any questions let me know

Cool, thanks Mr. Clean. How long was the recovery time and about how much did it cost?

Hey were in the same boat. I'm interested in getting Lasik done also, let us know how the consultation went.

my dad had his 2nd eye done today. the first went well. :thumb:

I drove the next night so recovery was pretty quick. Full recovery was about 2 weeks. You have to wear eye shields at night (so you don't rub your eyes) and have special eye drops.

I don't know what the cost was, my dad's eye care plan covered it. First company in Canada to do so

I know several people who've had it done. Three of them were severely nearsighted (not nearly as badly as me, but badly enough that they couldn't go anywhere without their glasses). All of them suffered further degradation in their eyes after the surgery, and are now back in glasses; one can no longer drive at night. To add insult to injury, the clinic that did one guy, though they offered a "lifetime guarantee", went out of business shortly after his operation.

On the other hand, the two people who barely needed glasses anyway (bastards!) are stellar examples of Lasik success -- no side effects, no nothing.

All very subjective of course and hardly a representative sample, but still.

I wouldn't do it, myself, but I'm so severely myopic I probably don't have enough corneal tissue to work with anyway.

I am very nearsighted myself, and the doctor told me I am not a good candidate for LASIK, but there is another procedure coming out involving implanting a lens or something like that. He said we would talk about it next time

I'm goin to get implants!

Both my parents had it done n are glad they did. My dad has to use eye drops . My mom still uses glasses to read...

i GOT IT DONE LAST HALLOWEEN 2 hours later I was out driving and seeing great the next day. I had a lot of light sensativity for the next couple of months. So if your driving have sunglasses ready. I would do it again if I had to.
