have been training on and off for 2-3 years now and have started training regularly, but I seem to have this problem right from the initial days

basically my left side (arm, forearm and shoulder) seems to get too stiff when I am training eventually resulting in lack of motivation or incomplete overall exercise

my trainer tells me it is because of weakness and lack of flexibility of my left side (I am right handed) e.g. I can do barbell or dumbell curls better with the right hand than the left but due to this problem i have to go with a lower weight to compensate for the weak left side...is this a serious problem or just lack of strength / flexibility on my left side?

should i consult a doctor or perhaps swimming would help? there seems to be no pain but the left hand just gives up on me

this is driving me crazy and inhibiting my workout sessions

any kind of advice to tide over this will be greatly appreciated

possibly an external rotator weakness.ANYONE AGREE?

this can cause instability/weakness,

Do you do a lot of pressing movements?
whats your shoulder flexibilty/ROM like?

Try holding your arm out to the side of your body parallel to the floor, stick your thumb out so it points forwards, now try rotating your whole arm (not just your forearm) clockwise so your thumb ends up pointing vertically upwards or slightly backwards. This is your external rotator working ,how does this feel?

there are loads of exercises for strengthening the rotator cuff exrx.net is an excellent resource.

I am not a physio so this is just my 2 cents ,your best bet is seeing a professional, perhaps a physio rather than a GP.

Hope i've helped RC

Could be so many things. To difficult to hypothesize via the internet.

hi

hey even i go to gym from last 5 years... but same problem with me and i think we dont do many activities with our left hands .. which we do with our right hand .. so i think there is no other reason.. to say that for this reason our left hand is weak...
