I started lifting when i was about 17 (now 21, stopped lifting about 2 years ago) and within a few months had put on pretty decent muscle mass supplementing only with whey protein and carefully watching my diet. However, as my back further developed, I noticed that the left side of my mid to lower back was noticeably lagging behind my right side in terms of muscle mass. Even after i would lift, I could feel that my right side seemed more worked. I would imagine that it is expected for ones handedness to have an influence on which side of your body is stronger/bigger just due to everyday preferential usage, and I began to take that into account when lifting. Usually i would do a few extra reps or sets with the left side of my body for various exercises. However, I couldnt find anything that would specifically isolate my left back, specifically the middle and lower region. I want to get back into lifting again but before i do, id like to find some exercises that would help my left back catch up with the right. If anyone has any suggestions for isolating this region, or even left vs. right muscle symmetry in general, I'd appreciate it.

You sure it's not mental? Check my post about 'left arm bigger than right' in the IM Official FAQ thread.

haha i wish man. nah, ive had people look at my back and they have commented that the right side is definately bigger than the left. myabe im overreacting a little bit, but i can DEFINATELTY feel a difference in how my back feels after my workout and even during normal everyday activities.

bump??

well if no one has really had this problem, do you think i could get away with doing unilateral rows and deadlifts using really light weight with the right side and the usual resistance with the left?? im probably not gonna start lifting until my college semester is over but by the time i do start, i wanna have this problem fixed so i can concentrate on universal mass building all over my body rather than just the left lower back

Is there a strength difference between the left and right lats?
