Sen. Lindsey Graham slammed newly elected New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for comparing Central American asylum seekers in the migrant caravan to Jews fleeing Nazi Germany during WWII.

Graham was responding to a tweet sent by Ocasio-Cortez, in which she compared previous refugee groups ? including Jews during WWII ? to the current migrants fleeing Central America.
?Asking to be considered a refugee & applying for status isn?t a crime,? Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Sunday. ?It wasn?t for Jewish families fleeing Germany. It wasn?t for targeted families fleeing Rwanda. It wasn?t for communities fleeing war-torn Syria. And it isn?t for those fleeing violence in Central America.?
Tensions along the southern US border escalated on Sunday, with border patrol agents firing tear gas at migrants as they attempted to cross into the United States near the San Ysidro crossing that links San Diego with Tijuana, Mexico.
The US suspended all border crossings from San Ysidro on Sunday morning as the border agents clashed with the migrants.
Ocasio-Cortez responded to Graham?s criticism in another tweet on Monday.
?The point of such a treasured museum is to bring its lessons to present day,? she wrote. ?This administration has jailed children and violated human rights. Perhaps we should stop pretending that authoritarianism + violence is a historical event instead of a growing force.?
