Little annoyances...

When the store puts all of the milk that expires in 3 days in the front and you dig back and find the ones that expire much later.

There is a good reason for that. If the old milk were in the back, then it would be expired by the time it ever got pullled out.

As someone who works at a gorcery store, it pisses me off when people reach back to get milk with a later expiry date when the ones at the front don't expire for at least a week or two. Who the fuck cares when it expires as long as it is safe to drink while you are drinking it?

Some people don't drink as much milk. Back before I drank as much milk as I drink now, the milk at my house would occassionally expire before we could finish it.

If this is such a problem for the grocery stores, then why do they even put out new milk before letting all the older ones get bought up first?

Because they like the shelves to look stocked. Apparently research has shown that people are more likely to take items from a full shelf than from an empty one.

If you can't finish it before it expires, shouldn't you be buying a smaller size?

Well, that doesn't suprise me. How are you supposed to take something from an empty shelf?

D'oh! I meant relatively speaking.

No Milk, no.
Milk is for babies. When you grow up, you have to drink beer.

I know that, but the day I wrote my annoyance I had gone to the grocery store and they had milk in front that was due to expire in 3 days...I drink a lot of milk but not in 3 days....in fact I buy 2 gallons of milk each time I go to the store...

Why they put milk due to expire so soon in there? I think they were hoping that some sucker in a rush will buy it without looking at the date...I'm not that sucker though. In fact this was the same store that had expired yogurt on the shelves...I worked in a grocer also and we made sure that things were off of the shelf before the expiry date...it's obvious someone was being lazy and not doing their job...thats one of my main annoyances "People not doing their job..."

Well milk doesn't really go bad at the expiration date if you keep it in the fridge. I don't know the reason why they don't remove it a couple days before. For bread and other things that easily go bad, it is our store policy to remove it the day before it expires. Milk usually sells so quickly that we don't have to worry about it.
