You have a point here. I have been bored lately after selling a lot or real estate. All that money sitting in low interest bearing accounts has me on edge.

Yeah, on education I have personally come to believe that 90% of al PHDs are overspecialized to the point of being functioally useless and clueless. I have had to work with a number of them and the big problem is getting them to drop their egos long enough to learn something. They get giddy when you can show them how to actually make money instead of spending all their time defending their titles.

I'm just having fun here - we are all fictitional characters anyway.

Fine Dale. I guess we come from different colleges and have different standards and different dictionaries since I completely disagree with your interpretation of word usage. At a certain point of proficiency a person can coin their own usages and claim it as their own style without suffering criticism from their peers. This is the problem ??? I don???t yet consider your opinion valid nor at the same peer level. You have not demonstrated competency with basic spelling so how can I take a lesson on the more complex issues of word usage from you? I personally tend toward orthodox and traditional forms of communication but often intermix foreign concepts, phrases and graphical elements for ???diversity??? and richness. In the context of topic forums I see no grammatical or syntactical problem with saying ???He is an oriental??? anymore so than saying ???you are preoccupied with scatological discussions???. As for big words, how I speak and interact is my personal choice. If that makes me sound superior or of higher standard that is your insecurity not mine. This is how I speak in real life. Do you even know the meaning of the word rhetoric? Oh, Dale, by the way, who appointed you the judge for ???how I look??? to all the rest of the people? Isn???t that a tad bit presumptuous? OD, I will point this out in the simplest of terms. We are debating the efficiency of George W Bush. We are not dicussing Canada, we are not discussing each individual board member, and we are not discussing a person's political affiliation. In most of your posts you make little to no point regarding George W Bush, which is the point of this thread. You bring up no specific instances as to how he has been effective, which I am sure is your opinion. Instead, in nearly 100% of your posts, you question the credentials of the person giving their opinion and then give nothing to support your own. You are certainly allowed to question someone's credentials, but a fact is a fact and if you are so inclined to question someone, why don't you look up their citation and not criticize their education level. If someone puts forth credible information that can be easily traced, their education is irrelevant.

I am in 100% agreement that our educations are completely different. I am a scientist and pretty much require that anyone trying to get a point across provide evidence that their point is valid. From what I gather from your posts, you are most likely "literary" minded and take great pride in that, as well you should. You obviously have a great vocabulary which I admit is much greater than mine. That does not take away from the fact that you have yet to support your opinion with any hard facts. If we were writing a book, you would kick my ass to the moon, as long as it were a work of fiction. Since we are debating, why don't you offer up some credible facts.

As for my opinion, I would not say we are peers for the reason mentioned above. We are obviously from 2 different schools of thought and that is fine. As far as credibility, I am at least putting forth facts. If you are referring to my credibility in terms of judging you, I suppose you are right since we do not REALLY know each other. However, are you not doing the exact same thing by attacking my intelligence?

Dale, I think you hit the nail on the head finally. The truth of the matter is we are not debating anything. This is not a moderated debate this is a discussion. There is a big difference ??? especially on IM since the tradition here is to fold spindle humiliate and abuse each other. There are no rules except to have fun ??? you should know that. In a real honest to goodness debate I operate differently but would never dream to think that this forum was conducive to that goal. For the record I have not even stated my opinions on Bush directly but instead used an indirect mechanism to imply it ??? my position should be clear enough though. Since this discussion was not premised on an objective basis I decided to attack and alienate the credibility of the thread starter. Frankly, on an emotional basis it was also an insult to my sensibilities to let this nonsense go unchallenged. There has to be a cost for uttering stupid statements if we want to change behavior or improve the quality. But why are you surprised? This is the common pattern of every thread at IM ??? go look at any. You don???t take any of this personal do you? It???s a recreation and mental exercise to me.

OK here is a fact. In real life I too am a scientist, engineer (3 college degrees) and published writer (locally). But don???t get too wrapped up in facts because I have come to realize that for every fact on the internet there is the statistical certainty that there is another ???fact??? to be found on this polluted internet that disputes it. I don???t have time to play the game of competing facts because in the end, in this forum, people will believe that they want to. So the only thing to do is have fun along the way and treat it as entertainment. By getting all serious you are taking the fun out of it.

I am not getting all serious, I am challenging you, but in a good way. Not knowing your background, as well as you not knowing mine, we have BOTH apparently made some assumptions about one another.

I also agree that "poisoning the pot" is a perfectly acceptable technique in a debate, but when that is all one does they fail to make any relevant point other than to display their own ignorance. I guess maybe you use this forum as an escape from your real-life work and the way you operate here is a more free-form mode of discussion. Where I work, there is very little discussion/debate, so when I get on here I like to pump up the information.

EDIT: I do disagree with your interpretation of this board. I always thought IM was a non-flame board, keeping in mind calling kuso a shithead or saying Albob is old is not really a flame

Ah dale, thats the problem. IM is NOT a good forum for deliberate objective debate. It is pure entertainment. When you buck the majority view you get beat up harshly. It's all part of fun and games here at IM. You might search the internet to find more balanced and moderated debate forums from sanctioned debate clubs to get a better work out so to speak.

By the way I "challenge" your assertion that by stalling a majority opinion to a technical "draw" by going on the offense and having everyone responding defensively is a sign of "ignorance". This is a special ops technique and is a force multiplier mechanism. (I also have a lot of tactical military training and helped design major simulation systems in this area).

In actuality I try not to work Dale. This just helps me keep a little sharper in teh event I ever need or want to go back.
