Hey guys, I've been on here quite a while and am familiar with all the cutting plans, bulking ect. I just booked my vacation to Cancun for Spring Break 07' and I of course want to look good for the "festivities" :D I am looking to get lean. Now I mean lean to the point of having clearly defined abs and lower back lean. My whole life I have been while not fat or overly heavy, I have always been umm...smooth for lack of a better terms lacking true definition.

I havent taken any recent bodyfat measurements but my best educated gues would have to be about 25-30% and I am 170lbs(target rage is about 10-15% and roughly 135lbs). I am not looking for a quick weight loss but something to where I can acheive the goal before March of next year. I'm not too worried about losing lean muscle mass but at the same time I dont want it to be a majority of my weight loss. Now back in high school I was very active in Army JROTC and from 9th-11th grade went from 185lbs to 140lbs. training 3-4 days a week (all cardio, no weights) while not changing a single one of my eating habits. Ever since I started college I have slowly gained the weight back and now, while I am still leaner than I was back in 9th grade, I have also been weight training for about 3 years on/off so I have quite abit more lean body mass.

I guess my question is, are my goals acheivable before my timeframe? I want to stick to an ultra-low carb meal plan (less than 30g/day) yet I do not want to loose all the lean mass I have built up over the last few years and look like a skinny twig with a great set of abs. So do you think this can be accomplished within the 6 month time period set fourth? If so, what suggestions might you have? Now I by no means am I looking for the quick and easy way. I'm willing to work hard but also wondering if I should focus on cardio, lifting or do both equally?

Well throw the idea of 30g/day of carbs right out the window. Keep your carbs fairly low, but theres no need to go that low. From what you are saying you ought to be looking more torwards nutrition other than training. I think you can drop down to what you want by then. A few tips I would give you is dont try to be perfect all the time because if you do and you mess up you wont get back onto the wagon. However dont be lazy and think well one donut isnt going to hurt. Be very strict, but 2 times a week have a cheat meal. Shoot for a gallon of water a day. Try eating 5-6 times a day at 250-300 cals. a meal. Stay active because by doing that it helps to keep your mind off of food. Do not skip meals because that actually slows your metabolism. Best of luck ta ya. PM me if you have any questions.
