Hi All!!!
Just started working at a gym, and studying for certification. Doing ALOT of reading on my own as well, since i am working my bb/fitness program as well. OK, with that said, i read somewhere ...when someone asked a Q about training lower Abs,,,in the answer....there was a statement ...no such thing as "lower abs", got me thinking that may be correct. I hear this training term used ALOT, in all exercise programs and in the gym. Whats your take????? Thanks ~ Blanche

The rectus abdominus is one muscle, you cannot work just one end or the other, the whole muscle contracts when you train it, so no, there is no such thing as 'lower abs'.

BritChick is correct. The reason many people think they are distinct muscles is that when you lose the fat around your abs, usually your upper abs appear first. But it just has to do with the pattern of fat loss.
