Hi I am dealing with what I think is patellar tendinitis- pain around my left knee cap- mostly on the side of the knee cap (mostly medial) but also a sort of tingling, burning feeling around the whole knee. But NOT UNDER the knee cap. I get this from time to time when I have to go up and down stairs a lot (for work- I work for a moving company). Anyways my knees (well mostly my left) were bothering me and I tried to do cardio and run through it a few weeks ago and now they are really flared up. Can't do any cardio or bike or elliptical or anything without discomfort.

I think I have a quad/ham imbalance that causes this. I have a shoulder injury right now so can't lift upper body, but I want to atleast do something for my lower body since I can't do cardio either! This last week I have been able to do nothing but sit on my ass. Can someone recommend some lower body exercises that wouldn't hurt my knee? I'm sorry, I can't affor a doctor or PT right now so I am confined to asking help from the knowledable citizens on this messageboard. I know I can probably do stuff like ham curls, but what about leg extensions, some form of squats, leg press, etc?? I appreciate any help very much.

Patellar tendonitis is just that. Tendonitis....rest and ice to bring inflamation down. You can't do anything to correct the problem now until the inflamation goes down. if you try and do corrective exercises, then you are just making the problem worse.

Ice, rest, rinse repeat.
