The Boston Globe is reporting that the Red Sox have offered up ManRam and Clement for Tejada. The major roadblock is that the Red Sox players are guarenteed more money than Tejada.

I think this would be great for the Sox. We can get that infield leader that we need and replace ManRam with another big stick. I love Manny and hate to see him go but all good things must come to an end. Another advantage is that Big Papi and Tejada love each other all most as much as ManRam and Ortiz do. This will help to keep that chemistry.

I am not all that disapointed about losing Clement as he did not impress me much after being beamed off the dome with a liner.

I guess the exciting MLB off-season lives on!:rocker:

Dealing Miguel Tejada within the division remains a road the Orioles would rather not go down, but the Red Sox, according to a source with direct knowledge of the team's pursuit of the shortstop, have made a ''pretty good offer" that has positioned them as a legitimate contender for the 2002 American League Most Valuable Player. The Sox recently offered Manny Ramírez and righthander Matt Clement, according to the source.

I think it would be a big mistake.

YES!!

Holy shit do we need this! This fills in SO many needs.

1) gets rid of an unhappy Manny who insists he'll sit out til he's traded
2) we fill in our need of SS with the best in the game
3) Tejada's only a hair off Manny's batting #'s

PLEASE make this trade and salvage our offseason!

salvage the offseason? i love you flex, but yer nuts.

I'd have mixed feeling about this. On one hand, I would not mind seeing an unhappy Manny getting shipped off, and obviously being able to get Tejada in return would be fantastic. However, that would leave us with a hole in left field, and shipping off Matt Clement leaves us another hole in the starting rotation. Granted, Clement isn't exactly a Cy Young candidate, but he still gives you 12-15 wins and 200 innings.

So if this trade happens, who takes left field, and who gets that spot in the rotation?

I don't think we are in total devistation as flex thinks, but we are by no means a World Series team either as muscle thinks.

This would be huge for the sox. I love Manny but if he does not want to be here then he is no good to us. Tejada would put Boston back up there with the Yanks in contention.

Alls i know is this....

Assume the trade happens....

The dropoff from Manny's bat to another left fielder won't be as great as the upgrade from whomever we were going to have at SS to Tejada. Get me?

-We get rid of an unhappy Manny who obviously is done with Boston.
-We bring in argueably the best SS in the game who's bat is very close to Manny, but who's defense is near the pinnalce of baseball
-Yes, we drop Clement, but he's replaceable. He had a helluva first half, but did awful after the break.

S.Muscle,
I don't see why you think i'm nuts, bro. As of right now, we have John H. starting at SS and Johnnny starting in Center. They better start doing something or it's gonna be a rebuilding year for a few years to come.

So if we trade Clement, our rotation looks like this:

Schilling
Beckett
Wakefield
Papelbon
Whoever we get for David Wells

Hmmm....I guess Clement's departure wouldn't be as big a loss as I thought.

you couldnt possibly dislike the renteria deal? marte is the next wade boggs and will man third for the next 15-20 years.

and regardless of if there is no starting centerfielder at this point, you'd want to pay johnny damon 13 million per year for the next four years? to be honest, i think i'd rather have IM's own Johnnny starting in center.

i just think its too early to say that this offseason was a failure and with the moves so far it can only be labeled a success.

 For a second there you almost had me checking your roster.

Looks like they're trying to work out a 4 team deal!

Sox would get Tejada and young, up and coming CF Joey Gathright and end up giving up Manny, Clement and Marte.

Pull the trigger already!

Clement would be no loss, he is to the red sox what Carl Pavano is to the Yankees.

The Red Sox got what they expected out of Clement....a number three starter, 200 IP, 12-15 wins. The problem is that Clement could not step up when the Sox really needed him.

On the other hand, Carl Pavano was supposed to compete to be the ace on the Yankee staff. You can't compare Clement to Pavano like that.

Pavano = TOTAL bust (so far)
Clement = delivered as expected

i tend to believe that being hit on the head by a baseball in tampa had something to do with his second half woes even if his career story has been a dominating first half and a mediocre second.

I have to agree.

I think our offseason has been very poor. I'm really disappointed in what I've seen so far. :( They need to do something right, NOW!

jodi, my girl, why are you dissapointed?

As a baseball fan I have to say that what you guys had was special, Manny is manny but he was a part of a great team, now to slowly see it dismantled is sad for us baseball fans :( but great for us yankee fans. ;)

The team that I will keep an eye on this coming year are the Blue Jays.........

the dismantling, haha - just because the red sox no longer are second to the yankees for the oldest team in baseball, and dont pay 13 million dollars for a noodle arm in center where they had had trouble for the last two seasons with bernie doing the exact same thing..

again its too early to tell, but if the red sox make the moves i think they'll make, the red sox will finish ahead of the yankees next year.

Theo, Johnny, bad trades, etc. etc., blah! :grumble:

Not knocking you here personally, Mino, just NY fans in general.....
I think it's hilarious how NY fans bash everything the Sox do (Damon's beard, Sox being idiots, "Manny being Manny" etc.), and then later bash the Sox for stopping it (trading Damon, looking to ship Manny etc.).
Again, I'm not saying you, b/c my boys do it all the time. Whatever they do is "wrong".

Red SOx fans do the same thing...its just an on going thing that is never going to stop. Yankee fans are going to do it as long as the yankees are in NY and boston fans are going to do it as long as the red sox are in boston.

Zactly... They were in the playoff hunt till end of August last year. As long as there young hitters can perform like they did at the beginning of last year, and Ryan can do a better job closing then Batista. And no major injury woes like Halliday breaking his leg, They should be set.

I still see the Jays trying to swing a deal. They have an abundance of 1st and 3rd basemans tied up with decent salaries. We will see though

The Epstein dealings were unfortunate, but Hoyer and Cherrington have done an excellent job, and Theo still seems to be sticking around as an advisor to both. In my opinion, he'll be back with the team in some manner in the next year or two.

Losing Johnny Damon is a blessing in disguise. The guy was as selfish as they come. I have never seen a guy more selfish in my life. Every city the Red Sox would go to, he would say how he could vision himself playing here, and if the money was right. It just got old, to say the least. What tipped me off the most was when he called out Curt Schilling, called out Terry Francona, and called out management for bypassing the use of Timlin in the closers role opting for Schilling. The guy thought he was above the law, and embraced that stardom from winning a World Series in Boston in such a horrible manner, its pathetic. Any guy that calls out teammates, there coach, and there organization along with saying how he'd love to be apart of the Red Sox most hated rival while he is still under contract with the Red Sox is not somebody i want on the Red Sox. The fact that the Red Sox were willing to offer him even 10 million per year made me vomit in my mouth. Damon signing in New York is an absolute blessing, and there is no other way to view it, period.

As for trades, how can you say there bad? trading a 34 year old back-up catcher for a player of Mark Loretta's caliber? trading renteria who never was comfortable in boston for a guy that is compared to Wade Boggs?

Not to mention there are still 3 months left until the season starts. relax, gang.

Nah, bro.

My NY fan buddies do it on spite.
When they can't think of shit to make fun of once we won the Series (ie 1918), they try to come up with other shit ("OH YA...........WE HAVE 26 TITLES...HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE?)

It's an ongoing thing that makes me hate Yankee fans more than the Yankees themselves.

I'm not freaked out. I mean picking up Loretta is a HUGE addition. The guy is an awesome 2nd baseman and was only underrated b/c he was in no-man's-land San Diego.

Plus, yes, you're right, there are 3 months left.

Its just we do need a CF, SS and Manny wants out. So pull that Tejada trigger already!

good man - loretta posted an .815 ops in three years at Petco Park and was injured most of last season to top it off. the guy can flat out hit. i wouldnt mind him as our leadoff man next season considering the red sox don't utilize speed as other teams do.

heres my plan:

reed, pineiro for arroyo (as rumored)

wells to la for brazoban, jackson (as rumored)

crisp for jackson, abe alvarez

manny, clement, cash to baltimore for tejada

1. crisp lf
2. loretta 2b
3. tejada ss
4. ortiz dh
5. varitek c
6. lowell 3b
7. nixon rf
8. youkilis/snow 1b
9. reed cf

stern, kapler, cora, graffanino, flaherty on the bench.

1. schilling
2. beckett
3. wakefield
4. papelbon
5. pineiro or lester

foulke, timlin, mota, seanez, dinardo, and then pineiro if lester beats him out for the rotation or if pineiro beats lester out for the rotation van buren/hansen/delcarmen and let lester grow.

that team right there, on paper, is an extremely good team. the pitching staff is head and shoulders above anything the yankees or blue jays can throw out there, and i really believe that the maturing process will be a success for reed in the nine hole, and crisp will also improve. i also like the fact that if lowell is still is 05 self, marte is ready and waiting in the wings.

you got kapler to platoon with nixon in right, you got two real solid infielders on the bench, an alright back-up catcher.

everytime i write something like this up, i get so excited. ha

I have always enjoyed watching teams with "Character" which is what Boston has or now had, to tell you the truth the truth if the Yankees weren't such a competative team who are always in the pennant I would consider them a boring team.

I can understand why Red Sox fans would be eager for this trade to happen, but is Baltimore ready to take on Manny? Do they want to deal with "Manny being Manny" a year after having to survive the Palmeiro steroid scandal, Ponson's drinking binges, and the terrible year that Slammin' Sammy had?
