I picked up my brand spankin' new carbon fiber Trek Madone Monday morning. Such a purty bike!

Soooo....of course we had to go for a road ride (took the whole day off with IAB)! 1.9 miles into the ride, a 20 year old driver in the oncoming lane was waiting to take a left turn in front of us. She turned just as we got to the road. We were "chugging along" at about 18 MPH. There was no avoiding the car. I slammed on the brakes, skidded, went down, and crashed into the side of the car (rear right quarter panel). I got a little banged up on the right leg. Nothing major. Tetanus shot needed. New bike, 1.9 miles, old: DESTROYED. Frame snapped in four places.

The driver was cited for making an unsafe turn. The cop said her insurance will pay for a new bike. I thank my lucky stars it wasn't worse.

Today, 2 days later, I'm very sore :(

Ah, that sucks. At least you don't have to eat the cost though. Nice bike BTW.

At least you are ok.

Why didn't IAB take the hit for you... what kind of man is that :D

You should've bunny hopped the car :hehe:

But seriously people never pay attention to 2 wheeled vehicles, I used to ride motorcycles, mopeds and bikes as my main transportation and I lost count of how many times people just pulled out in front of me or weaved into my lane......

I think it should be a requirement that every new driver have to spend a year riding a 2-wheeled vehicle before they are licensed then it would make them more aware of them.....

If anything they could say it's for the environment, if I weren't worried about getting killed I would bike to work all the time......

i'd go see a doctor if i were u... YOU need to get fixed and have her insurance pay for it... bikes can come and go but your life and being able to live right is way more important... her insurance will go up and she'll have to pay for that dent in her car herself and then you'll get paid out for your bike and the medical bill's... just go see a doctor and get everything checked out to make sure your ok... you shoulden't have to pay for something later for someone's stupid mistake now...

i messed up my knee in a accident... got a measly 6k out of it with having to pay the doctor back and then still having a messed up knee.. my knee will never be the same because of the accident i had...

THanks all.

and FYI I did go to the doctor. I'm no dummy! :)

Terrible! What a waste of a finely crafted piece of machinery. Thank goodness you're okay and can safely ride another day though. That is not an ideal way to spend your day off.:(

I told her it was a good thing she was riding up front or that could have been me that was hit.

Oh shit! I can't believe that.
I can see you explaining to the insurance what the price of the bike and replacement will cost. Hope they don't try and shit you.
Glad you are ok. Man I thought that carbon was tougher than that? Guess not?

I'm sorry what a nice ride! Here in Atlanta I might as well be invisible when I do my road training, people practically run me over all the time.

that sucks indeed! glad you're ok! hope everything works out in the end.

Oh man that sucks! Glad you are ok though. As said above I hope they don't try to fuck you on a replacement though!
