Mets acquire Castillo from Twins - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

By DAVE CAMPBELL, AP Sports Writer
July 30, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The NL East-leading New York Mets neatly filled a big hole at second base, acquiring three-time All-Star Luis Castillo for a pair of prospects Monday. The 31-year-old Castillo adds speed to a batting order already topped by major league stolen base leader Jose Reyes. Castillo twice was the NL steals leader.
A three-time Gold Glove winner, Castillo also should solidly the defense in an infield with Reyes at shortstop, David Wright at third and Carlos Delgado at first base.

Minnesota gets catcher Drew Butera and outfielder Dustin Martin. The deal came a day before the deadline for making trades without waivers.
Castillo is hitting .304 but had just nine steals in 13 attempts and only 29 walks in 349 at-bats. He is making $5.75 million and is eligible for free agency after the World Series.
Ruben Gotay had been playing second since Jose Valentin broke a bone in his right leg when he fouled off a pitch at Dodger Stadium since on June 21.
Butera is batting a combined .231 with six homers and 26 RBIs this year at Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern League and Class A St. Lucie of the Florida State League.
Martin is hitting a combined .289 with five homers and 52 RBIs for St. Lucie and the Golf Coast League Mets. The Twins recalled infielder Alexi Casilla to replace Castillo.

The Mets made a great deal here today.

Atleast we now know it won't be the offense that kills the Mets in '07.

Actually have Mets fans here?

Keep an eye out for pitcher Deolis Guerra in the next 2 years, watching him now, he's the real deal.

He's definitely the real deal, but what makes you think he was truly born in '89 other than the fact that thats what he's listed at?

ur not a yankee fan??? ur from the bronx. lol. anyway i grew up in queens so i love the mets

Min0 views baseball similar to how he views his sexuality.

He really has that youthful zest for life that I haven't seen with anyone else. The "young" guys from DR and VZ are either thugs or treat everything like a business move. Deolis is like this kid who somehow found his way into pro ball and wants to do it all, take it all in. He's the only one who volunteers to play games with kids, make appearances, etc.

It's kinda like Tom Hank's character in BIG after the transformation.

That's real cool.

How are you able to find this information out? Do you work for St. Lucie?

...That's awesome. I'm jealous.

Whats your position?

I'm just a part-timer. I run the video board and orchestrate the in-game stuff from the sound room, yelling at the announcer and the sound guy mostly.

Still sounds like fun

In the household one roots for the Yankees while the other roots for both but is more of a Met fan.

If anyone noticed, Pedro got fucking rocked today.

Pitched 3 innings against one of the worst teams in the league, whom we've beaten soundly the last 3 games of the series.

Gave up 5 earned runs on 6 hits including 2 HR's (one from a guy who's only hit 5 all year) and struck out 5.

Well it has been a while since he's pitched, give him 2 more starts.
